Mufti Abu Layth says that reports such as the Prophet having relations with a nine-year-old or becoming impotent are rubbish that should be denounced as blasphemy.
“absolute utter rubbish these things are rubbish garbage being rigged educated in the name of Islam fuel for Islamophobia I urge you I beg you to please denounce this rubbish as blasphemy”
Mufti Abu Layth says the claims that the Prophet was sexually impotent, married a nine-year-old or became clumsy under a spell are untrue and an attack on the Prophet's honour, that he has shown the reports on the marriage to have problems in their chains, and that those who affirm such claims are themselves being blasphemous.
“of course is wrong because it's not true it's an attack on the honor of the Prophet what is wrong with you”
Mufti Abu Layth says hadith placing Jesus's descent at a white minaret in Damascus are suspect because no such minaret existed in the Prophet's time and Damascus became central only after it became the Umayyad capital.
“the Muslims move the capital to Damascus the Muslim capital ends up as Damascus all of a sudden subhanAllah there's so many hadith about Damascus now”
Mufti Abu Layth says reports such as God creating man in his image and creating the soil on the Sabbath are Israiliyyat taken from Genesis, as Imam Malik and Ibn Taymiyya held, even when their chains are sound.
“it's just a verse out of the Bible I don't care if you say the Prophet said it it's the Prophet did not so this is this is these makes no sense this is just Christian doctrine”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that people hostile to Islam brought the belief in Jesus's return in as Christian propaganda through hadith, which went undocumented for about a century and whose chains could be copied, and that this is why Imam Malik told people to rely on inherited practice over isolated reports.
“would you not attack Islam ideologically would you not put propaganda you would and that's what these people have done they did that they brought in their Christian baggage”
Mufti Abu Layth says that a hadith with a valid chain must still be rejected if it goes against reason, the established Quran and Sunnah, or the principles of Islam, that creed requires mutawatir reports according to the Hanafi and Maturidi majority, that lay people may suspend a hadith that troubles them while seeking guidance, and that the gecko hadith is made up.
“there you go that's my methodology and if any hadith clashes with these things it's unacceptable unacceptable”
Mufti Abu Layth says that rating Qadi Iyad highly does not oblige him to accept every report in al-Shifa, which was written to instil love of the Prophet in a context of insults and knowingly includes weak and fabricated reports, and that Qadi Iyad himself disagreed with Malik on several matters.
“he brought that for a reason because he wasn't trying to have an academic debate he was trying to instill the love of the Prophet in the hearts of people”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that no hadith cited for jinn possession is free of criticism, that the sound version of Uthman ibn Abi al-As's complaint in Sahih Muslim mentions no jinn, as al-Nawawi notes, and that the Prophet, sent as a mercy to mankind, never taught about so ubiquitous a danger in any sound transmission.
“not a single hadith that is free of criticism there are a few hadith I mean there are many hadees which are just completely week or week”
Mufti Abu Layth says the perfume report is not sahih and is a lie attributed to the Prophet, because it rests on a single chain through the weak Thabit ibn Umara from the little-known Ghunaym ibn Qays, and some early authorities did not attribute it to the Prophet.
“this hadith is not sorry okay it is not sorry this hadith is life life people and this is a lie attributed to the messenger of allah sallallahu alayhi wasallam”
Mufti Abu Layth says the report slanders the Prophet, since calling a woman a fornicator is qadhf punishable under the Quran and, for the Malikis, regardless of intention, and the Prophet was never obscene and would not have labelled women this way to deter them.
“this is the Prophet would never ever have said something like this this is a slander against the honor of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam right that he would speak about women in such a way”
Mufti Abu Layth says Zaynab's report, which mentions only the late Isha and in some versions addresses her alone, was a specific instruction for an unstated reason and not a general prohibition of perfume for women.
“in my understanding this was just an isolated incident that may whatever it was it was not a general ruling because if it was a general ruling the Prophet”
Mufti Abu Layth says the report that a perfumed woman's prayer is not accepted until she bathes is not from the Prophet, rests on unknown and weak narrators, and is followed by no one.
“that hadith is utterly utterly unacceptable as a hadith from the prophet salallahu alaihe salam whether these things somehow above herrera said them or not is a different story but nobody accepts these rulings”
Mufti Abu Layth says women may wear perfume when they go out, that everyone should smell good and be presentable, and that the reports calling such women fornicators must not be attributed to the Prophet.
“yes of course they can work perfume when they go out and people should wear a certain amount of perfume people should always smell good”
Mufti Abu Layth says he believes the hadith about a wife who stays away from her husband's bed is weak and unacceptable, clashing with the Quran.
“there's this hadith which is weak I believe it's unacceptable utterly clashes with the Quranic clashes with the authentic sana clashes with the principles of Islam”
Mufti Abu Layth says the report that women lack intellect and faith is inauthentic and falsely attributed to the Prophet.
“I'm going to read this hadith and demonstrate today that this hadith is inauthentic it is not true and I'll show the many problems with this attribution misattribution to the Prophet”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Quran never makes a gender differentiation regarding the people of hell, so the report goes against it.
“speaking about people and and the afterlife and people damnation it never makes gender differentiation ever in the Koran right so this seems to be a new principle which is going up against the Quran”
Mufti Abu Layth says the report contains a factual error, since men always outperform women in swearing in every culture.
“it is unquestionable in any culture that men always outperform women in swearing right so this is one important point that this is actually a factual error”
Mufti Abu Layth says it is absurd to say women lack faith for not praying while menstruating, when the religion itself told them not to pray.
“do you not refrain from praying when you menstruating say yes I said well that's the lack of your faith wealthy irony here is that these rules have come to them from the religion so”
Mufti Abu Layth says all the chains of the report have some problem, so it is not unquestionably sound.
“all of these people have some problems the reason I'm highlighting this is to show that look when these narrations already have AE they have problems in the chain they have these are not unquestionably sound”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Sahih al-Bukhari report of Abu Hurayra being taught Ayat al-Kursi by a thieving devil is fabricated or mis-transmitted, contradicts the Quran and Sunnah and disrespects Islam.
“fabricated or Mis transmitted hadith in salvo hari which is this one about a bull rider of the law unquote the devil and the devil taught him something ridiculous totally ridiculous I mean it completely contradicts the Quran and Sunnah”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that the report is blasphemous and a mockery of the deen, since it shows Abu Hurayra clumsy and disobedient, the Prophet failing to teach and tolerating theft from the treasury, and the devil teaching Islam, against Imam Malik's principle that everything of the deen was taught by the Prophet.
“what how blasphemous disrespectful is this hadith it shows Abu Huraira to be incredibly”
Mufti Abu Layth says these Bukhari reports contain a factual error, dating the night journey before prophethood, and portray the Prophet and Moses in a disrespectful and irrational light; he adds that he holds the night journey to have been a vision.
“then the prophet tries to touch her and she moves and she says to him i seek refuge in allah from you from who from the prophet nonsense utter nonsense disrespecting our prophet”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Bukhari report of Solomon vowing to sleep with ninety women and being punished with a disabled child for not saying 'if Allah wills' is disgusting and disrespectful to a prophet of God.
“this is a prophet of god who can't be bothered to say i mean just look at that hadith that is disgusting this is so disrespectful to our prophets”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Bukhari report of monkeys stoning an adulterer makes no sense, since adultery belongs to the human institution of marriage, which does not exist among animals.
“adultery is to do with the institution of marriage institutions don't exist in the monkey world or in the animal world okay”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Bukhari report in which Umar speaks of a verse of stoning that was revealed and recited is disrespectful to Umar and to the Quran, since there is no verse of stoning in the Quran and the report amounts to saying the Quran has changed, and he highlights another Bukhari report in which the Prophet forgets a verse.
“so this is disrespectful to - Omar is disrespectful to the Quran is trying to say that what is saying the Quran has changed”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Bukhari report that the Prophet fell unconscious after removing his izar to carry stones for the Kaaba and was never seen naked again is nonsense that disrespects the Prophet, and that the scholars' efforts to soften it contradict its own wording.
“this is how we are repaying the our profits with respect that is nonsense”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Bukhari report in which the Prophet turns away from a woman beside Umar's palace in paradise because of Umar's jealousy casts the Prophet in a poor light.
“look what light its casting upon our beloved prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Bukhari report in which the Prophet points to Aisha's house as the place where the fitna and the horn of Shaytan will rise is disrespectful to the Prophet and to Aisha, and that Muslims need to question what they present as authentic.
“what the hell is wrong with these people well this is so disrespectful to our prophet”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that BukhariGate matters because the whole of Sahih al-Bukhari rests on al-Farabri alone and because its reports repay the Prophet, Umar and Aisha with disrespect, and he attributes the circulation of these reports to Wahhabis and their sympathisers, whom he calls haters of the Prophet.
“this is why Buhari gate was so important and we have to remember this whole book transmitted on the back of one man robbery robbery”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that the Prophet did not die of poisoning and that the report in which the Prophet says in his final illness that he feels the poison cutting his aorta is a fabricated story.
“Now first of all this is nonsense. Okay the prophet did not die of poisoning.”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that the chain of the poisoning report is unacceptable because Yunus was faulted by early critics for his memory and al-Zuhri does not state that he heard it.
“I will show the contradiction and then also show from the chain perspective why it is unacceptable.”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that the poisoning story is internally contradictory, since the companion who ate the food died at once while the Prophet is said to have died from the same poison three years later.
“This is already a contradiction. The fact that dies from that poison, how can that poison take three years when Bishar has already died from it?”
Mufti Abu Layth says the poisoning report clashes with the Quran's promise to protect the Prophet from the people and makes the Prophet's death resemble the punishment described in the Quran for one who forges revelation.
“Allah said in the Quran that that oh messenger of God that stand up with the message Allah will protect you and here evidently Allah has not then protected him”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that a hadith contradicting the overall message of the Quran must be set aside, as Imam Malik did, and that saying the Prophet died of poisoning insults Islam, God and the Prophet.
“We need to learn from the the examples of Im Malik Im Abu Hanifh that when a hadith comes that contradicts the overall message of the Quran you need to put it aside.”
Mufti Abu Layth says there is no mention anywhere of a number of 72 or 73 virgins, which he thinks may come from a fabricated or extremely weak report, while the Quran does mention women and virgins in Paradise in modest terms and some non-sahih reports speak of sexual relations there.
“this number I don't know I think it comes in some fabricated or extremely weak hadith maybe and for some reason people have just circulated it”
Mufti Abu Layth holds that the Sana'a find does not show an evolving Quran: the manuscript dates to the first century like others, the Quran was the one text documented and taught everywhere from the start, and it was too widespread and too distinctive in style to corrupt, so fabrication targeted hadith instead.
“this finding does not show that this was an evolution in Pro in progress or the Quran was for example a working model that people were working on it and changing it”
Mufti Abu Layth says the reports placing a woman's prayer at home above the Prophet's mosque go against the sahih hadith of women attending the mosque.
“it goes against that which is Asahi ad it goes against the hadith that many women would come inside Buhari they would leave fajr salah”
Mufti Abu Layth says it seems very plausible to him that the Prophet may have foretold the conquest of Constantinople, because it symbolised power in that region.
“I do feel that it may have had a a significant that the Prophet may have said it seems very plausible because not so much of because of it but more so”
Mufti Abu Layth says Aisha unquestionably stood up for women's rights.
“that unquestionably Aisha was somebody who stood up for women's rights and she has many hadith critiquing certain narrations that people were misattributing to the prophet”
Mufti Abu Layth says the hadith that the Mahdi's army will come with black flags were, if anything, part and parcel of Abbasid propaganda rather than directed against the Abbasids.
“the mahdi's army will be coming with the black flags so i don't think they would have served auntie uh if anything they were part and parcel of the abbasid propaganda”
Mufti Abu Layth says he finds the hadith ordering the expulsion of the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula incredibly suspect and does not believe it is true.
“leave that this doesn't add up you see so i find this hadith incredibly suspect”
Mufti Abu Layth says the traditional view that God commanded the sacrifice entered Islamic thought through Jewish and Judaeo-Christian narratives taken by early Muslims, and he cites the reading attributed to Ibn Abbas that Ibrahim saw something that suggested to him he had been commanded.
“you have to understand that a lot of our early islamic thought has been influenced by the israelites by jewish judeo-christian narratives that have been floating”
Mufti Abu Layth says the hadith cited for possession prove nothing: the Bukhari report that Satan runs in the veins concerns suspicion, the Bukhari report of the epileptic woman treats epilepsy as an illness to be borne patiently, and the remaining reports in Ibn Majah and elsewhere are weak.
“my point of saying these people is that there is nothing authentic to prove this hocus pocus”
Mufti Abu Layth says editors who standardise variant chains and texts to match the majority, even with good intentions, erase evidence of how reports were actually transmitted, and that this may also have happened unnoticed with the classical hadith collections.
“you're standardizing a model and this is exactly what may have happened in the past see you're just catching it out now because ahmad shakir highlighted this”
Mufti Abu Layth says that, to be fair, one must ask whether one can think of any motive for people to have fabricated a hadith, which critics do not do or do not do fairly.
“But can I as a person think of any motive for people to have fabricated that hadith? And you see this is what they don't do or they don't do fairly.”
Mufti Abu Layth says the hadith of Jesus descending as a judge on earth was made up from Christian belief taken from the Bible.
“which is the verse out of the bible by the way and it's christian belief and that's how this hadith was made up through abu hurairah and through those people who mixed it up”
Mufti Abu Layth says the report that the Prophet told a woman to let the grown Salim drink her milk is fabricated, because it is ridiculous.
“allegedly the prophet said well why don't you let him drink your milk now he doesn't mention how to drink that milk and this hadith is fabricated anyway because it's ridiculous”
Mufti Abu Layth says the report that the Prophet would have ordered wives to prostrate to their husbands is not authentic and was probably circulated to support the family hierarchy of a patriarchal society, and that the report urging violent jealousy over female relatives is likewise fabricated.
“no this hadith isn't authentic but um I feel that people may have”
Mufti Abu Layth says the reports in which the Prophet spies on the child Ibn Sayyad suspecting him to be the Dajjal, and related reports in Sahih Muslim and Bukhari, are absurd and insulting to the Prophet's dignity, and that their contradictory accounts of the Dajjal's identity and location show they are not revelation.
“The prophet had an immensely dignified character. He didn't used to run around hiding behind trees, spying on children”
Mufti Abu Layth says the belief in a Mahdi is disrespectful to the Prophet, who was the rightly guided saviour, and that it entered Sunni Islam from early Shia political movements, the Mahdi hadith being fabricated descriptions of figures of that time.
“I find this concept disrespectful to the prophet because there the rightly guided person for this um was the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam”
Mufti Abu Layth says institutionalised religion has always disliked humour because satire lets ordinary people see absurdity and question authority, and that reports against laughing much were fabricated for this reason.
“i feel that institutionalized religion has always hated uh humor because it's felt that humor hmm you know it's just this is something that if you allow it to enter the realm of religion authority will disappear”
Mufti Abu Layth says the prostration of everyone present when the Prophet recited Surah al-Najm is documented, possibly out of respect at the mention of their gods, but that the narrations claiming the Prophet praised the three goddesses are false.
“the people fall into sujud they go into such that this incident is documented it is in bukhari it is in muslim”
Mufti Abu Layth says the story that the Prophet praised the idols, or that Satan spoke in his voice, is absurd, and that 22:52, in a Madinan surah, has nothing to do with it.
“first of all this verse is not speaking about anything to do with that okay this verse suratul hajj right is in the surah of hajj which is an issue of madinah”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Maliki scholars rightly rejected the satanic verses narrations as fabricated, and that even a sahih report contradicting the Quran would be rejected, let alone weak ones.
“this is why many of the ulama of islam oh sorry especially the malikiah very clearly made it very clear that look all of these things are utterly absurd they have no standing”
Mufti Abu Layth says Ibn Hajar was wrong to argue that the many weak chains give the satanic verses story a basis, a mistake he attributes to passion for the hadith project rather than to malice.
“this is ibn hajjar's clear blind mistake that he it's and i'm not saying he he i'm not saying he did this out of malice he didn't”
Mufti Abu Layth says the Quran itself rules out the satanic verses story, since it says the Prophet does not speak from desire and that Satan has no power over people beyond calling them, so he cannot speak in the Prophet's voice.
“shaytan does not have the power to be talking impersonating your voice this is what qadha yad mentions this is what ibn arabi mentions”
Mufti Abu Layth says the satanic verses story was fabricated by people unhappy with Islam, as Ibn Khuzayma said, and that Ibn Taymiyya and Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab were wrong to incline towards accepting it.
“who clearly said look this was people who weren't happy with islam just kind of built on that story that was about all the people prostrating”
Mufti Abu Layth says he perceives the Quranist movement as a reaction of anger to hadith that are misused, an anger sometimes justified, and he holds that Aisha married in her late teens, that the hadith on killing the apostate is fabricated and its application was political, and that hadith are wrongly used to justify abuse and misogyny.
“I feel that the Quranist movement is really it's you know it's a kind of reaction with a lot of rage a lot of anger almost and negativity”
