What this part covers
machinesummary, machine-writtenBukhariGate matters because the whole of Sahih al-Bukhari rests on one transmitter, al-Farabri, and because the reports in it repay the Prophet and his companions with disrespect. Mufti Abu Layth attributes their circulation to Wahhabis and their sympathisers, whom he condemns in strong terms.
In more detail
Mufti Abu Layth mentions briefly a report, which he numbers 137 [?], that the Prophet slept until something like snoring could be heard and then rose and prayed without renewing wudu, which he finds odd. His point, he says, is that this is why BukhariGate was so important: the whole book is transmitted on the back of one man, al-Farabri, and the public will not forgive those transmitting what he calls nonsense and hatred against the Prophet. He lists the reports he has discussed and others: that a prophet would go to a hundred women and be punished with a disabled child, that the Prophet fell unconscious when uncovered, that he married a little girl, that he forgot the Quran and had to be reminded, that revelation came down and omitted the disabled until it was corrected, that Umar spoke of extra verses that used to be in the Quran, and that the devil is at Aisha's house. He says this is how the Wahhabis, whom he calls filthy haters of the Prophet, and their sympathisers and semi-Wahhabis today repay the Prophet, Umar and Aisha with such reports.
