What this part covers
machinesummary, machine-writtenWhen the Prophet fell ill Arab doctors treated him, which is how Aisha learnt medicine, so recited verses were never meant as a cure-all and the 'treatment by Quran' books misuse the book. The Quran's verses help against whispering, and one reads them for oneself without any raqi.
In more detail
The guest asks what the Prophet did when he fell ill, and answers with the report that Aisha, asked how she knew so much medicine when her other knowledge came from the Prophet and her father Abu Bakr, said the Arab doctors who came to treat the Prophet prescribed remedies which she prepared, and so she learnt. If reciting certain words cured illness, he argues, who knew those words better than the Prophet, and why would he and the companions need doctors, and why did Muslims develop medical science? He rejects the reading of the hadith that al-Fatiha is a cure for every illness in that sense, and criticises books of 'treatment by the Quran' prescribing verses for headaches and stomach pains, noting that their authors go to doctors when ill; the Quran was sent to guide people, who are then meant to develop medicine themselves, and this misuse disrespects the book. He cites the Prophet's words that whoever introduces into our religion what is not from it is rejected, allows that the companion who recited al-Fatiha over an afflicted tribesman was cured by Allah's will, and asks why, if al-Fatiha cures, anyone needs a raqi rather than reciting it themselves. Those who invent such practices imply the religion was incomplete when Allah said he had completed it, a great lie against Allah and his Messenger. He concludes that the Quran's verses do help against the whispering of Shaytan, but that one reads them for oneself, understanding their meaning, and needs nobody called a raqi to read for one.
