A man who wrote amulets for people wanting a son wrote an ambiguous word that he could read as 'not a girl' if a boy was born and 'not a boy' if a girl was. A relative of his, childless for years, was pressed by the women of the family to visit a raqi; his shaykh told him to wait nine months, within which a child was born, and the shaykh explained that he had sensed the child was coming and that Shaytan wanted the man to go to the raqi so that he would credit him with the son. At a big shrine in India such as Ajmer Sharif [?], he says, visitors are met from the station by people telling them they got a son by coming there; those who then have a son tell everyone and those who do not blame themselves, so the business of lies runs on. He tells of an old woman who did not believe in jinn and beat to death a thief who came disguised as one, and asks why the jinn never trouble him, atheists or non-Muslims but only those of weak belief, especially the ignorant in the villages. He calls it a big lie against Allah and his Messenger, spread to take people's money and the honour of women, for which the punishment will be severe.
