Mufti Abu Layth relates the hadith in which Ali told the Prophet he was finding it difficult to retain verses of the Quran, and the Prophet offered to teach him words that would make it easy. He explains that the Prophet told Ali to wait for Friday night, which in the Arabic reckoning means what is now called Thursday night, running up to the early hours before Subh, and in the last part of the night to stand and pray four units, each pairing al-Fatiha [?] with another surah; the names of the surahs are garbled in the transcript. For those who do not know those surahs, he says it is permitted according to the majority, with some difference of opinion, to hold the Quran and read from it during salah, leaving markers in the right places. He says the dua that follows may be said at the end of the salah before the salam or after it, and gives its meaning: asking Allah for mercy by being allowed to abandon sins, to be empowered for a task not befitting someone like oneself, that the memorisation of the book should stick to the heart, that one recite it in a way that pleases Allah, that it enlighten one's sight, flow on one's tongue, relieve the heart, expand the chest and be implemented with the limbs, since none can help towards the truth but Allah and there is no strength or might except through Him. He adds that the Prophet said to do this for three, five or seven Fridays.

night if you stand to pray and you offer four in the first you pray with f andah y in the second with f and in the third and and in the fourth with and now those of you that are wondering well wait a minute I don't even know these few suras how am I supposed to read that well it is permissible for you according to the majority of the now
there is some difference to hold the Quran during Salah it is permitted to kind of read from it okay if you leave the markers in those uh in the right suras and you can access them during your actual Salah and at the end of that the prophet Sall alhi wasallam advised him that once you do that then follow it with a Dua now the Dua can be done either right at the end of the Salah before you do your Salam or or or alternatively could be done after your Salah but it's at the end of Salah so and the Dua is that once
you finish those four oh Allah have mercy on me by allowing me to abandon sins for as long as I am and Empower me that I may take upon myself this task which really you know it's not befitting for somebody like me and allow me to please you like Grant me that Allah who has created the heavens and the
Earth of who possesses absolute honor and an unrivaled might I ask you Allah [Music] that you make that you make your book or the memor or the memorization of your book stick to my heart as you have taught
me and Grant me that I should recite this book in such a way that you will be pleased with me so once again you call out to Allah glorifying him I ask you Allah that you Enlighten with this book of yours my sight and you allow my tongue to flow with
it and that you allow it to be a source of relief for my heart and that you expand with it my chest and you allow me to implement it with my limbs for sure nobody can help me upon the H except you oh
Allah and that no none can grant this to me except you oh Allah and that there is no strength and no might except through you and then the prophet Sall alhi wasallam saidan he said you do that either three Fridays or five or seven inshallah and he says he says and the prophet some of the re said he said that that he who has sent me by he who has sent me that this that a Believer has never done this except it served it served
