What this part covers

machinesummary, machine-written

Mufti Abu Layth recounts a vivid dream of meeting Ibn Abd al-Barr, who looked like a professor.

In more detail

Asked in the chat whether he dreams about classical scholars, Mufti Abu Layth says he has, as one-offs, though his dreams are usually crazy. Mufti describes a dream from many years ago in which he went to meet Ibn Abd al-Barr, the great hafiz of Muslim Spain and one of the leading Maliki scholars, and found him in an office looking like a professor surrounded by books, resembling the actor from A Beautiful Mind.

I mean and these most of these it's not even that they're just cannon foder that these people are just a waste. Most of them are then an impediment to to enlightened growth because they become the people that then say to this one kufur you know [laughter] it's like a cha cha you come and join that line. Yeah.

1:10:54

[laughter] Yeah. Right, Salman Moin, you're doing it with the super chat, man. Much love. Much love. Uh, right. So, it [snorts] is amazing your connection. Do you dream about Hazam? [snorts and laughter] I have in some, you know, as a one-off had dreams about scholars in the past.

1:11:22

Um, I've dreamt of Abdul B. I've dreamt of some other scholars as well. I'm pretty sure I've dreamt of Pal the Yad. I've dreamt like as in I like I just in the dream. It's not like I've dreamt about them in some kind of oh mesmerizing romantic Bollywood sense, but as in like in the dream I happen to be talking to them or I happen to I wish I could say I'm often doing that.

1:11:48

I'm not. My dreams are usually just crazy and [laughter] not of this nature. this is the oneoff occasion where I don't know what happens and it's like huh how come I had an Islamic dream [laughter] but yeah so um but I have had dreams with them I you know it's amazing because my dream of Abd I had so many years ago but it still stands out like so [laughter] in that dream I I walked into this kind of uh I I wanted to meet him I I was in some building and I knew he was there and he worked worked there or something.

1:12:26

Ibn Abdar the great hafid of the western Muslim world from about a thousand years ago. He lived in Muslim Spain. He's one of my kind of dons of of and dawn of the Maliki Madhab. So I was like whoa I have to meet you know half Abd and and they said oh well he's in that office over there. [laughter] So I go into this office and he's this he's like a professor.

1:12:52

He's like dressed like a professor. He looked a bit like in my dream a bit like um what's that actor's name? Yeah, the the one from uh Gladiator. What's his name? [laughter] Um ah bloody elf. See like slip. But the way he he plays uh you know the way he kind of looks in um a beautiful mind um that Russell what is it?

1:13:21

But anyway, right. So you know who I'm talking about. So he was like that the way he's in that movie uh and dressed like a professor and he's sitting there all these books and he's on this chair sitting there and uh he's kind of reading some book or something and I go in and I have this kind of conversation with him and I was so like wowed by but I was kind of shocked because I didn't expect him to look like that. [laughter] So not being judgmental Russell Crow.

1:13:49

That's it. That's it. He looked like that but the slightly chubbier version of not fat but like you know the one from but yeah that was a very interesting intriguing dream because I still remember it as clearly as I saw it when and it' been so many years now I saw that. Yeah. Right. So what's going on people? What somebody said in Go on ask that to MUI.

1:14:17

Ask what to a beautiful mind was a beautiful movie. It was actually it was an amazing movie. Um was Abd in the reception [laughter] Abdar? It was a don though. I got to give it.
