Mufti Abu Layth reads hadith 3431, again transmitted through Abu al-Yaman, that no child of Adam is born without Shaytan touching or pinching him at birth, so that the child screams, and that this is why newborns cry, with the exception of Mary and her son. He says that on this report every prophet, including the Prophet Muhammad, was afflicted by the touch of the devil, while the conception of Mary and the blessed conception of Jesus are exempt, which he presents as an echo of the Christian doctrine of the immaculate conception and of Jesus as saviour. He then turns to the Shia and Aisha: Sunnis take issue with the Shia for criticising Aisha, which he says is rightly so, since she was the Prophet's wife and beloved to him and to criticise her is in a way to criticise the Prophet, and he says he will show what Bukhari itself contains about her.
