Mufti Abu Layth issues a second challenge, which he says is above his critics' pay grade and open to the whole of Wahhabism: prove beyond reasonable doubt that Sahih al-Bukhari goes back to Imam al-Bukhari. He asks from which manuscripts this could be proven: the Sultaniyya edition rests on the Yuniniyya of al-Yunini, a Hanbali of the seventh to eighth Hijri century [?], of which no manuscript survives, only a copy from someone who copied it from him, and it disagrees with the other recensions, such as al-Mustamli's. He asks why nobody considered Farabri reliable in hadith until hundreds of years after him, and why al-Mustamli reported that Farabri's copy of Bukhari was incomplete with parts moved around, as recorded by Abu al-Walid al-Baji [?] and al-Qastallani [?], and that everyone copied from the one copy yet the copies all differed. He adds the case of al-Saghani [?], a Hanafi scholar born in Lahore who, hundreds of years later, claimed to have found Farabri's actual copy, which nobody else has seen and which contains reports no other copy has. He says the transmitters of Bukhari's other copies disappear and the book rests on one man unknown to his contemporaries, vouched for only two hundred years later by al-Sam'ani [?], while the copies around the world disagree, with hadith missing and patched together. These challenges, he says, are addressed to the Wahhabi Defence team and to anyone who makes Allah and His Messenger revolve around Sahih al-Bukhari.
