What this part covers
machinesummary, machine-writtenThe leak of Yasir Qadhi's emails set off a fitna in which people doubted or left Islam, and Yasir Qadhi's own explanation made it worse. Being clever and well-read does not make someone an academic.
In more detail
Mufti Abu Layth reflects on the fitna and drama that followed: Yasir Qadhi dug such a deep hole that a portion of the ummah drowned, with reports of people apostatising and having doubts about Islam, and he says he would never have thought the person behind it was Farid. He asks what Farid was trying to achieve by exposing emails in order to save the ummah, and disputes the description of Abdul Rahman Hassan as one of the UK's best academics, saying that being clever and reading books does not make a person an academic, comparing it to calling Mullah Omar the greatest hippie or Donald Trump the greatest feminist. He closes by saying the leak was enough to drown Yasir Qadhi, who then took others down with him through his explanation, and that he had to share this because he did not see it coming.
