What this part covers
machinesummary, machine-writtenCritics are circulating old clips and articles by scholars they otherwise reject; Mufti Abu Layth says this is cherry-picking and poor scholarship, and that others have held his view before him.
In more detail
Mufti Abu Layth observes that Deobandis and others are suddenly sharing clips of the Mauritanian scholar Muhammad al-Hasan al-Dedew saying that whoever denies the return of Jesus is a kafir, although most Muslims do not hold that such a denial makes someone a kafir, and the same people never share his clips declaring blind taqlid haram or permitting women's make-up. He calls this a failure of justice and poor scholarship, and says people may mock his appearance but he refuses double standards. He points out that the Arabic clips circulating are years old and were aimed at Dr Adnan Ibrahim, an Arab scholar who has long taught the same view in Europe, not at him. Likewise Shaykh al-Awni's [?] article is shared while his fatwas on following easier opinions and on saying Merry Christmas were not. He says those accusing him of picking and choosing are cherry-picking clips from scholars they otherwise disagree with ninety percent of the time, and that the claim that nobody in Islam has said this is wrong.
