Mufti Abu Layth continues the list of details: lions grazing with camels, children playing with snakes, all animals turning vegetarian while Jesus kills the pigs, which he says contradicts the Quran's teaching that everything has its nature. He then turns to Imam Malik, whom he calls a saviour for the Ummah in these times, saying Malik taught not to accept hadith blindly, that one-from-one transmission would snatch the religion away, and that the Muwatta, one of the oldest compilations, has chapters on the end times, faith and Paradise but nothing on Jesus returning. He says almost half of the Jesus reports come through Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, that Malik, Zuhri's most reliable student, transmitted only about three hundred of his hadith and left a container of some twelve thousand he refused to transmit because they did not make sense. He says Malik held that Jesus died a natural death, and that the Muwatta's kitab al-jami' has Jesus telling a pig to pass by in peace, the character of a prophet of love, against reports of him killing pigs; he reads this, together with Malik's report of the Prophet's dream description of Jesus and a report of Jesus performing Hajj that was excluded from the final version, as Malik pointing out that Ibn Shihab's details were not right. He notes that in these reports Jesus's geography is Damascus, Jerusalem and Mount Sinai, never Makkah or Madinah, and says the detail clashes so much with Islam that the whole must be weighed, promising to come to tawatur and ijma later.
