The answer in brief
machinesummary, machine-writtenMufti Abu Layth calls Imam al-Shatibi an absolute legend and the real founding father of maqasid, the objectives of the Sharia.
In more detail
Asked whether he has heard of a named person, Mufti Abu Layth says the name sounds familiar but he may be mixing him up. Asked for his opinion of Imam al-Shatibi, Mufti calls him an absolute legend of the Islamic heritage and distinguishes the two famous Shatibis of Muslim Spain: Abu al-Qasim [?], author of the famous poem quoted in discussions of the Quranic variant readings, and Abu Ishaq, the Maliki scholar. Mufti says Abu Ishaq is the real founding father of the objectives of the Sharia, which existed within the Maliki school before him but which his book brought to life, and that he loves him for that and for the Maliki bond. He also points viewers to his twelve-part audio series on the history of al-Andalus.
