Continuing the report of Sulayman, Mufti Abu Layth says that according to it none of the women conceived except one, who bore a half-formed child, and the Prophet said that had Sulayman said insha'Allah they would all have borne warriors. He calls the report absurd on its face, calculates that even at a few minutes each the night would run to fifteen or more hours, and says that apart from putting a prophet of God in such a bad light, it leaves only two reasons for not saying insha'Allah, that Sulayman forgot or that he was too arrogant or could not be bothered, and that God then punished a prophet for forgetting by giving him a disabled child, so that disabled children become a punishment from God. He asks what picture of God and of the prophets this paints. He says people need to be transparent: if a report fits with reason, does not clash with the Quran and the general understanding of Islam, and does not uproot Islamic principles, it is accepted, and if it does not it goes out of the window; Sahih al-Bukhari is not so sahih and al-Farabri, its only transmitter, is not reliable. He then introduces hadith 3663 from the virtues of the companions, transmitted from Abu al-Yaman, who says he was informed by Shu'ayb rather than that Shu'ayb narrated to him.
