The answer in brief
machinesummary, machine-writtenMufti Abu Layth says his madrasa's head was not hot-headed, and that Barelvi radicalism is recent while militancy has long existed in parts of the Deobandi world.
In more detail
After declining a request to lead a viewer's wedding, Mufti Abu Layth answers a question about his madrasa [?] in Pakistan, saying its head, Mufti Naeem [?], was calm, with business acumen, and not hot-headed. Mufti says the Barelvis were historically Sufi and non-violent, and have only recently become radicalised with figures like Khadim Hussain Rizvi calling for blasphemers to be killed, whereas militancy is no new phenomenon among Deobandis, citing Sipah-e-Sahaba. He notes that not all Deobandis are radical, the Tablighi Jamaat even speaks against violence, but that neutral Deobandi madrasas can become resting grounds where militants camouflage themselves. He compares this with how ISIS and al-Qaeda camouflage among ordinary Salafis.

mufti can you be the imam at my wedding next week [Laughter] i doubt that i doubt that but um i i'm sure you can get many better imams than me to attend the weddings uh how was your mother assigned pakistan my mother was all right to be fair he was very chilled mufti naim was a very calmest-minded individual he kind of he saw relevance in you know speaking earlier on about
capital and money and he understood that and so he had an incredible business acumen he had bought out that entire area um yeah and he wasn't really hot-headed although look he was a obviously the madrassa ultimately was a diobandi madrasa which is it's kind of like a safe zone for some hot-headed elements you understand like so the brillvi scene in pakistan has only recently become extreme
with people like uh khadim hussain rizvi and these kind of people recently this is like the last few years that they've taken up guns and said that you know we should kill blasphemers but really the brilliance were never like this in pakistan the real views were sufis kind of all about love and and they maybe have a lot of sectarianism but they were never about violence never i mean it was you'd never find um even when it came to you know like taking a stance against violence like all they would do is just speak they wouldn't ever raise
arms and the bravies were the majority of muslims in pakistan the rural um so it's a shame to see them recently also become radicalized violently like with the likes of khadimus let's take life in the name of religion but otherwise this was not them but the diobandis this is no new phenomenon to them the mujahideen were mainly always the ubunti a lot of the jihadi elements in pakistan are the ubandi sepa sahaba which was the militant wing of um sorry which was political group
but it's militant wing jaish muhammad no and its militant wing was what was it called i think was that the but that so they used to take out kill shia these so it was no stranger to radicalization but not all the urban these were radical and not all madrasas were radical kind of breeding grounds they weren't so abliki jamaat for example are dipandi but they're not radical and they're not
violent and they don't promote violence but okay they they are a very good example of they they will even speak against violence the tabli jamaat from the ubuntu so you do have them but you'll get others that are more in the center so they not they won't speak against the other groups but they themselves won't be um kind of violent or take a bomb so mufti names madrasa was like that it was a very kind of neutral but diobandi so you know they wouldn't ever advocate violence or things like that but naturally because it was a neutral deobandi ground
you could have elements within them that would come there and find a safe zone to camouflage who were for example sahaba or who were taliban they would find this as a kind of a resting ground resting zone just as you know with the salafis the wahhabis you see not all wahhabis are extra violent extremists they're not i mean many wahabi speak out against violent extremism but they are a kind of neutral zone and a resting zone for people like isis
and al-qaeda and daesh and these people they find they can camouflage amongst normal salafis because they are also selfie but they are the jihadi salafis and so even though all selfies are not jihadi but they can just normally mingle with them and you can't tell that who's who so it's like that you see yeah if that makes any any sense right what is going on people what is going on uh mufti would be branded a heretic i'd definitely be branded a heretic
[Laughter] uh right let me see trying to check if i've missed any super chats uh right jerry idris had super chatty shukran mufti what proved islam was true before we knew about the prophecies that we see like tall buildings and and so on um right there's also what is the ruling on not hitting the face is it haram to do uh in the context of training do watch my clip on
