What this part covers
machinesummary, machine-writtenThe Ibn Mas'ud report has unknown narrators, opens by citing the Christians' claim that Jesus will return, and ends with life regrowing from a fluid sent from beneath the Throne, which Mufti Abu Layth calls preposterous.
In more detail
Mufti Abu Layth turns to a report of Ibn Mas'ud, whose chain has a narrator nobody can identify, whose name is given variously [?], a problematised Hashim [?], a barely known narrator and a Hasan ibn Hafs [?] who is also criticised. He points out that the report begins with the statement that the Christians claim Jesus will come back, which he says shows the belief creeping in. It then gives elaborate detail of the end of time, a wind, Gog and Magog, people dying and utter destruction, after which, he says, bracing his audience, Allah sends down on the earth from beneath his Throne a fluid like the sperm of men, from which life grows again. He reads the passage twice amid laughter, jokes about a blizzard and a sperm bank beneath the Throne, and says this is the kind of hadith Qadhi says cannot be questioned with reason, calling it preposterous.
