all right people you just check that the audio is coming through if right look at all of these one is foreign
right let me just check that the sound is coming through fine um you guys can hear everything right fuse let me just get in audio check assalamu alaikum folks I can see Imran Khan how are you doing
right ah I've been a little under the weather actually so not so um not so well but alhamdulillah Allah be praised always I mean so shukran uh we've got sounds good here all right Allah
right so Bismillah let's what I want to take a look at today carrying on with Quran Quest from our last session to navigate really in this journey of ours through the Quran and to really see the meanings that the Quran unlocks for us and how that adds value to our daily lives Allahu Akbar so
these are the verses I'd like to take a look at today so from Surah baqarah you've got going into including the first page of alif La meme the first four pages if we may right so leading to verse 29. I'd like us to what we'll do is in short largest take a so this is our objective we can kind of zoom in one moment uh take a look at
these Pages then we'll see the verses so once again we've got as you can see here right now I will have the recitation played as well before Leela we have our own very own party
and he's somebody who has an expertise in that field and that's a wonderful mashallah collaboration so Allah bless him and everyone who's trying to learn any science or any any who's trying to take any meaningful step to become closer to kitabullah whether that's through their pronunciation whether that's through their understanding their recitation their participation and we will as well provide a link in the description for said Jalal uh his
YouTube page you can connect to him and people can also reach out to him for that field as well that's his expertise the maharish the tilawa the tajweed so for guidance on those matters do feel free to reach out to say Jalal Bismillah let's right so these are the pages once again
now I take it there will be um Bismillah recitation so we'll begin with Bismillah [Music] [Music]
[Music] um foreign [Music] [Music] [Laughter]
thank you Bismillah right people we begin one of the most amazing surahs of the Quran the length is the the most I mean it is the lengthiest Surah that we have spanning into three three portions it's verses some have disagreed whether it's 285-286 or 287 between themselves
it is and that's pretty much agreed upon whether they disagree on a verse or two between that and we do have about this Surah as well certain Hadith that the prophet has said that uh a home in which Surah is being recited
it is a prevention for the shayateen and this by extension includes things like negativity and it includes things like a dark Outlook and we will explore more of that that how the Quran expands its Barakat for us okay what that means um to you see we don't have to just see these things in uh some people they see this in almost a very
a paranormal sense but we can connect with it in a way that it is Meaningful to our daily lives so now one of the amazing things about this Surah as you can see it begins after Bismillah and we had a very lengthy discussion last week on Bismillah Rahman Rahim and you can follow up with that the um on whether that is a verse of the Quran or a fat or as
he had had his opinion and and we've had all the views on that so refer back to last week's lesson on that alif La meme now this is the first verse and there are countless I mean there will be countless uh interpretations on what does that mean s many some people cite up to 16 18.
some people in their tafasir go beyond clearly this immediately the Quran connects us with the mystical you see this is here Revelation is here and it primarily speaks to us at a level of the Soul
which is inseparable from that which will truly be mystical some people have gone into trying to explain what this means whether alif is for Allah whether these are for his names or for safat or whether it's Allah whether it's for Muhammad rasulullah whether [Music] um the
some interpretations from Arabi whether these are names of angels for example he brings some of the tuna this is before him people like Muhammad and others about how this could be referring to names of the prophets and and these references to a Hadith things like um
if Nash will brings that example that we letters are used to refer to words just as we do in English nowadays in text message language you might say prb be right back okay to mean okay things are all right so in that example in the Hadith I believe that in in bukhari I believe or that kefab is safe
so is this an abbreviation now no no person nobody has definitive knowledge on this I would I would personally after you know sharing with you many sources that you guys can explore and read
I would settle with or go with or guide towards or what really gels with me in understanding what is this in just in some um apprehension or some encounter with this aliflame
that we embrace the mystical me even the letters create within us alif Lam create within us
aham as we listen to them internally part of that is the beautiful impact of Revelation life will be mystical people it will be dynamic it will have moving parts embrace it there will always be an element
of mystery and the first after Fatiha the first Surah after that the lengthy Surah in the Quran immediately brings us face to face with that reality
so to me that is absolutely breathtaking [Music] foreign for the um for the linguists out there it is something that is containing a vessel-like feature so you will have as
we are or many other forms kitab that which contains embodies writing now now in the time of the prophetab does not just mean book today it commonly does so but in the Arabic language scripture
it's not speaking about a physical book although later on the must-have is unquestionably as it is today a physical book but when Revelation began it was not a physical book that the sahaba or the the prophet Islam or people around them would refer to it was it's like how we say today the judgment from God or we say scripture or Revelation that's how they would refer to it
now here you do have uh an entire discussion from the khmerians they'll go into this that what is and you've got to immediately about six and a half will bring you face to face with at least six interpretations is and then in which case
now in which case it could be subject and predicate okay for this is for the Arabic um you know fans out there those of you that are the Arabic the linguist the lugawin and those who are studying Arabic foreign so you've got this that La rate that there is no doubt but rape it's not just saying la shuk okay something that causes
a turbulence right now you could stop here you could say that in it is guidance for those who are God conscious there is no turbulence creating no disturbing doubt in it and then in this case would be uh could
be a predicate for saying it is a guidance for those who are God conscious now right one second right now ashur has an interesting uh discussion here as to some of the other serine that Huda is one of the few words in the Arabic language that comes on this format that you can see here so you will see um
for example the word Booker crying um soda um but but there's only a few words like that in the Arabic language some people have brought up a handful that come on this format of Huda a guidance another word for guidance is hidayah as well but this format is quite unique just so you have that right immediately we go into this discussion of taqwa
now that this because it's important that what is taqwa and then also that this book or this revelation is a guidance for those of that attribute of taqwa so and we've got a little discussion here even our sure brings it amongst others on what is what does guidance actually mean and there's a whole razi and all these people go into that as well uh great detail and that's something we won't spend too much time on but in a nutshell what they're trying to argue is
guidance something which has to take you to the Final Destination or can it just be because then there will be people who do not arrive and is that then a negative reflection on the guidance which it isn't right so but it's amazing how um how detailed Serene become in when covering these things okay and I did mention the um the other uh the other terms like things
like uh you've also got Surah the night travel Booker I mentioned Laura Toka which is from taqwa as well Booker you have the poem um famous classical that but she cried before me and her crying evoked in me a state of crying Allah so I said that truly you know the all the glories to the one who went like who
proceeded who got there first but you see it being used there as well now what is interest what is important here taqwa does not mean fear of God now many people do go into this translation it is not actually a correct translation to say because it isn't um means fear in Arabic now the word hope is used in the Quran but taqwa is repetitively used and if anything I like the way um we've had
um it translated in the past um in some mind traps as I thrust to reverence to to have this kind of reverence oh today we could say God Consciousness that um that does give a closer approximation as well right now
one of the questions as well before we just move on that who is this who are these verses addressing so ibrah does have an entire discussion here it's not that part that these verses they are to the Believers but also the remember this is a modern Surah it's in Medina the yahood by extension the nasara that are listening
why is this important because they too it's referring to the the scripture at hand not Little Jeans okay because alif lamb the the definite article can come for something generic as in scripture but then they are people of scripture here it's saying the scriptura Han the Quran
indicating that that which has gone before it now unfortunately has irtiab in it okay they have fallen into dispute over previous scripture and it is no longer of that status that it may have been when it was first revealed um
this is an incredibly fascinated and question here foreign immediately affirms the Unseen that there is a world there is a reality that you cannot see
this is not just important all too important because it's beginning you see it's addressing the soul consciousness that which we cannot see beginning with the very essence what it's addressing what is being addressed you see you we can say that we are being addressed but that which really understands the world that Which experiences the world that by which we make meaning of the
world sure Us by extension but if we zero in it is consciousness in and of itself is unseen foreign by extension reality out there it's far beyond what we can see and grasp we only have a very limited within the visual Spectrum tiny field of apprehension
reality in and of itself is so drastically different Allah immediately affirms this foreign the life hereafter is
Revelation a coming to the prophet is from faith in and of itself is always inextricably bound building even when people believe in ideas in Concepts they believe in strength in in Courage they believe in the truth they believe in all of these concepts are ultimately abstract none of that they're not tangible they may be concretized in examples
but in and of themselves they are always the right belief will always be with the high and there is nothing irrational about that some people may think well you see if you believe in reason how can a person believe in the hype is not counter reason in any capacity we have whether it's beginning with Allah himself to the the the realm
the Dominion the Divine Dominion it is not count of reason Angels what because you see what you may picture maybe count of Reason Not So a person may think well what what do you picture when you think of things like angels you're picturing your instantiation of them is your imagination
their reality is Huck and not counter reason you may think of something that is to you appears-old but that's not reasonable in fact there's an amazing there's a very fascinating book by Dr Rupert sheldrick I was just I just finished it um last month called the physics of angels absolutely just wow something we can uh people who are interested can can explore that but it is incredibly fascinating how he goes into a whole discussion of what
what he speaks of as opposed to an a a one fascinating discussion is the particle wave um do you dualism or parallel and how the Newtonian world and the quantum World um in physics today we see that but he speaks of a lot of when people think of angels they're thinking of them in a particle present sense but one way to think of them is as a field and and that's really fascinating
because the field collapses and appears based on action as the quantum world does but that's a different discussion right so those who believe in the Salata and they establish the prayer now uh this choice of words that to make something stand in the Arabic language you'll find in many of the tafasi ribna Ashu will go over these other people as well that this is a metaphorical language highlighting when something stands in Arabic we say for example the market is it's in full swing
comet is stood now you could say rakhadat that it kind of almost went to sleep or but that's they use these all for war this is used as well so these words are used Salah is an incredibly fascinating discussion as well that where does the word come from now this is something that um olama have really gone into you'll find it in many books of discussion um even ashur goes into it goes into it
many uh you you'll even find the tafas uh the grammatical books the um the Maliki linguist he highlights that Islam as it appeared in the Arabian Peninsula language was already inherited the Arabs already they had a language that was already in use they had words which they were already using for many things so Salah was already a word being used for an act of
an act of worship now what Muslims did is they refined the meaning with these words so later on now that would cause some discussion well what did this word used to originally mean and why Salah so some so people have gone into many discussions will uh he highlights that look um is this a word that's extracted from another word some people say because the plural is salawat or is it Salat or is
it and he goes to all the definitions is this from the word of coming second for example the Arabs did have this word to to say that they would call the horse that the second runner-up the silver medalist for example in our day and age what we call a silver medal is they will call the mussoli and they would call the first the gold medalist the mogility now some people said was that because Salah came second as a commandment after faith that the that this is why the term got adopted is it something that just meant an act of
devotion is it something some people razi goes through this whole discussion of the salawing the how we have a part of the central nervous system we have nerves coming down that go right through arguably what is linked to the kind of sciatic nerve and things like this so as one goes into rukudi's nerves uh are impacted and this is where they get their word from the truth is look will this was a word that the Arabs used for an act of devotion and Muslims inherited that word and and further built upon it and that's really
um enough we do know that the Christians previously did used to uh call their churches Salah as the Quran mentions as well that we have a reference um to them mentioning that their abolities of worship are referred to as salawat as well and from what we give them of risk they spend this is an important description for those who have faith you see because spending
people it is deeply Bound in your conviction of Faith your faith in humanity your faith in in compassion your faith in the rahma of Allah your faith in Risk itself the prophet Islam says that you will find somebody who um has very little and he gives from that allele you see and that is the best of giving why because he has a faith or she has a faith that woman matters
okay now there is an entire discussion here I have not sure mentions it amongst other people uh you do have um also speaks of it that risk is risk um Halal and Hara and they go into this whole discussion that
and just very briefly that you see many Allah Scholars felt that risk risk in and of itself is not an IBN speaks of this and this is how he uh inclines that it's not defined by its parameters of how you earn it so in and of itself you could access your risk through Haram means it is still the same risk and actually I'm just thinking shall I take this off for a while I right or is it gonna I think it's
actually connected to the mic so I might have to leave it on right so I've spoken previously you have the island method as great Scholars as you know and many of the people I've spoken of is is is the world of the imaginal realm as some have translated into English as Mundus imaginales or the world of representation that which is between this world and the world of pure
uh Royal and according to many Muslim and Sunni um you know thinkers and of the past that I've spoken on this that things appear that they are in that world of methyl and then they manifest here they manifest here almost like how a one could say a shadow is intricately bound with its body but in the world of Alamo mythal things on they they may have symbolic forms it's not
how we see them here okay so and and dreams and the unconscious is connected to that and I've spoken about this in much detail in the past so risk would appear in animal method it would then manifest In This World by the means by which we access that risk we a person may access it via Haram means and that is Haram the risk was written for them you know there's an interesting that is a story that's often cited that
um that said that he um it entrusted a person with uh with something whilst he'd gone on um on on an errand and and he it paid him he'd kind of thought um he was thinking as he as he was coming back that you know the person's done this when I get back I'm going to pay him you know this was like he did such a great favor for me that Allah blessed him when I'm going to come back I'm going to pay him a dinar for having done this service you know taking care
of this but what happens is as the as he's away the person dishonestly um kind of celt it away and just makes a claim that something you know oh I lost it or something happened but sells it for 18 hours and this is a popular story told by a lot of people that when said now Ali comes back to him about it's authenticity but the meaning remains correct that look when he comes back and he says oh well you know oh yes I did have that thing but you know it got lost and I'm you know sorry about that but what he'd done was dishonestly sold it for 18 hours now
the moral here was that you see that dinar was already in his risk he was going to get that by either means obviously unbeknownst to him at the time but he chose the dishonest meme so this is how dystonia Works Allah has written risk for us how we access it maybe through Halal or Haram means
no sorry the uh uh We've sorry I moved this on um now moving to the verse after this now this immediately brings us uh to those who went before us the Jews the Christians and other people of scripture also connecting us to them that you know that we that this is a tradition it's not something new it's
not something like an innovation there has been a long tradition coming down and Allah mentions they have yaquin this is a it is used to it is used in a literary way to to express the strength of people's Faith naturally many people it doesn't have to mean in the yakin certainty sense and other people do write that this word is used to
this word is used to just Express when you have such strong conviction about something you call it certainty but one could say it's not actual certainty just as if I was to say you know we're going to do this tomorrow definitely now we don't have certainty that tomorrow will come but we treat it in that way another interesting discussion here is about the word uh Angela this does refer to another variation is tanzil so inzal intensive Revelation and this does refer to something descending and it's about Revelation and people have made a distinction
about you know whether they're whether inzal is revelation in one go to let's say animal missal and then from Alamo mythal the tanzil is the um the kind of segmented uh Revelation that the prophet Islam receives the other thing is the the US coming from Above This is for an honor as Allah mentions look does it have to be literal it doesn't have to be literal Allah mentions in the Quran and Allah sent down a variety of animals for you now this doesn't mean it has to
be a that Allah actually sent down for example cattle and cows and sheep but this is used figuratively in that sense okay now a fascinating discussion here as well that we've gone spending this IBN goes into an in an entire discussion on are we allowed to spend from Easy spending
junfe in fact we have a responsibility to spend on those who we have a duty towards but we also have a responsibility to the Greater Community and Humanity by extension there is here a discussion that IBN Ashwell brings as well what about couples and people do can couples what if uh so for example hind the wife of Abu sufyan who he was very kind of withholding with his money and he wouldn't spend and she asks the prophet that can I just take from his money and the prophet said
that that which is graciously understood you can take and there's a whole discussion here on you know that do that we have a certain um a license when we are within close parameters with people but the Earth the convention and culture defines that
right moving on we've got here now once again for the going into the crimeans you've got straight away followed by khabar that you've got Allah or you know going back to those people who believe Allah
those people you can see and and and I have included the translations here as well that these are people upon guidance from their lord and they are people of success is used in the sense uh that allergens that people have an understanding of success when we use success even in the worldly sense we use it in a way that people there's just a generic understanding and the Quran also Builds on that in its discourse
goes into a great discussion of why is this format used they are upon and it's as if this is a they are on a vehicle Allah on they are mounted they are upon as if this thing is moving and then there is a fascinating discussion just as a person would be on a camel on a horse that's how the the kind of language is drawn and he there is a fascinating discussion
that he goes into justifying that look well you know this that that it gives a meaning because faith is a journey you see that we are upon that guidance and you can see here we've got so that was the the first page that we've taken a look at
right now moving through and that those who disbelieve it will be the same for whether you warned them or you don't now there is an entire discussion here that should we not be inviting people to this faith because Allah is saying those that disbelieve it is the same whether you
you know uh now we from our perspective do invite people okay uh we speak about Islam truth whether they will believe whether they will accept the message or not and this is something that only Allah truly knows it is not for us to make that judgment another Point here that many people go into including that
kufar it is not this is not in this should not be taken lightly you know some people will just call one another Garfield such an you know just this person is a car field this person is a cafe these things are incredibly weighty it is not for us to take these Martyrs so lightly unfortunately we in this day and age have become um victims to that culture where people consider it so easy to just call one another car
fields truth is that that is always that it is deemed Haram in Islam and for certain ulama who take this ruling it's not really to be exercised in this generic way okay and and that was the way of the salaf that was the way of the Prophet salallahu teaching us even the munafirin of Madina that the prophet Islam knew about he wouldn't go in a way to say well such and such a person is a car first even when they were
even in those cases where they were hiding it but that was not the way that these things were to be dealt with may Allah grant us ease in that matter I mean because really it's it's a disease that is Afflicted many of us you know yes right so there is a huge discussion here that
Allah is saying look in the Latina Cafe those who disbelieve whether you call them or don't it is the same they will not believe but does this you know those who disbelieve here this verse who is it addressing because if it's addressing the some of them were later on to embrace Islam so how does that work then because if this is addressing people like let's say Abu sufyan and amongst other people they would later on go on to become Muslim so
how and if it's addressing people who won't then if we're calling them towards Faith but Allah knows they're not going to believe here there is a discussion known as um here there is a discussion known as you talk that calling towards Allah Allah placing a responsibility which cannot be fulfilled and this is an entire discussion in the books of rasul highlights that look when the verses are calling people towards Iman
for us they are generic in Allah's knowledge such and such will never Embrace Islam or such and such will later on go on to embrace Islam whether those people are exempt because Allah knows not exempt but they're not really the target of this verse in Allah's knowledge that to us is immaterial because we don't have access to Allah's knowledge so to us this is just generic we accept it Time Will Reveal who took what path
[Laughter] [Music] so another interesting point here is the word kuffer it comes from the Arabic word of kafar and kuffron which means to cover something up okay now as ignashur mentions this was actually about covering up a blessing
so if you use the word it just meant a covering in Arabic and and then it goes from there to mean [Music] and then this is how people took it those who covered up the blessings of Allah to the extent that they eventually just denied him does go into some discussions on what kufur um is and that is to do with people who deny who are ignorant of the the being
of Allah and then he expands on this foreign [Music] does highlight that if not some some of
a Serene and ibnathia mentions them mentions them took this literally now this is not literally true okay it doesn't mean that there's an actual seal on like if we were to take a look at their hearts we wouldn't see an actual seal some of us didn't actually took this literally but that Allah has placed this that they their hearts have become impenetrable to True faith
now some people have read this and um you will see there is well in as naha Springs and it does come back to the same meaning of discovering now why has Allah mentioned but he's mentioned the others as plural Allah upon their hearts but Sama is in the singular format but I'm sorry him is plural once again so they they rise their hearts but summer is singular
now one understanding is and one way to see that is that this is a noun as opposed to actual so upon the hearing as opposed to upon the ears which would have been another intricacy here is hearing is the portal to our consciousness
it is truly the one thing that the one um faculty that although does not appear more powerful than the visual but it is active and with such fortitude that even as we sleep even people who are comatose hearing is the one thing that remains connected to this world and many people who have studied things like Consciousness and um let's say that the the
re the realization of that world have shown that the path to Consciousness is through hearing and this is why even those who practice mindfulness and meditation or try they they seek out a silencing it's not about just closing your eyes in fact closing the eyes is often never as hard-hitting it's the silencing and the inner silencing to hear what is ultimately the Divine silence
and that's something so powerful woman [Laughter] that woman and mercy shall I bring this like that right yeah so you can see that
Allah begins this verse with this style one minute nurse now there this is a this is a powerful rhetorical device and from people now if you think about it almost everything that we're going to speak about in this sense will be from people you know it's not any human issue it's going to be from people but this is something that grips your attention in Arabic especially woman and nurse and you see this in the Hadith as well you know this kind of style this
rhetorical device now this goes to show that saying that you believe is is not always an indication of true faith this does open up a discussion of what is faith okay what is Iman and you will see that IBN ashur has an interesting discussion here once again that and he brings varying uh positions so there's uh he highlights three or four
positions that the first position being that is Iman having a realization and a conviction Within and this is um this is one of the views within Sunni Islam that you will see that ignashur mentions this has been attributed to Imam Malik so from the from the Madonna when Imam Malik has a fat word Islam
if a person let's say he was going to take a Russell because he's becoming a Muslim and his heart had embraced Islam in that photo of Imam Malik that is sufficient let's say this person was to have passed that is sufficient for the Islam and IBN mentions that because he had embraced Islam he had embraced Islam in his heart now this has also been attributed
says that this is a reasonable position according to a sunnis and this was also the view of the second position is that and this is a popular one that Iman it is embracing with the heart and but expressing with the tongue as well and this has been transmitted from hanifa Imam noi says that most of the fukama had the thing say this
view this is now and then there is a whole discussion on this so the the point is you could see the difference let's say a person you knew it was in his heart he went to do the hotel but passes away do we consider him a Believer or not do we treat him as a Believer I guess you could see one of the differences there another the third view is that um the the truth of the faith is not just the conviction the expression but also the manifestation by actions now this has also been attributed to Imam Malik
sophiana many of this now this comes now this says that actions are a necessary part of Iman so the Hadith that the thief does not steal whilst he's stealing and while I just need the same thing about Zina that when they do this act and except whilst they're doing their act they are not a believer that then naturally brings a discussion
on do sins remove people from Islam the sunny view is they do not okay there is also a view from Imam Malik um will continue to increase but it doesn't decrease and if Nashua mentions is quote that explaining why Imam Malik may have said that to differentiate him from who believed that if your actions disappeared you no longer were a muslim okay so that is the view of the Rich and that is an
um that is a weak and unacceptable view within Islam we do not become kofar we do not leave the fold of Islam um by our actions by or our inaction per se okay and the famous story of Hassan who had the students of uh the kind of founding fathers of the martezia movement who was sitting in his Gathering and when they uh he was asked that what does a person you know person is a Believer but what what about him when he or she commits a major sin and before he
could answer was he's removed from Iman and not in kufar but he's in this limbo state in between um this deeply upset hustle bossley and while sleeping at our got up and he left and you had um the famous statement that oh he said to him that leave us alone with you nonsense and from here they got the term
so [Music] [Laughter] foreign [Music] that they attempt to deceive Allah but in essence all they are truly deceiving is themselves um
even if we do not recognize this the harm we do ultimately is only but to ourselves okay and here you do have this this whole verb for the grammarians where you ma um that this is for those who are into karma for you
that whilst they are deceiving they are in this state that truly they are only deceiving themselves okay now if Nashua does go into an entire discussion here where he brings up and I'll just show you this um he brings up an entire you can't really see it because of the maybe you can see there are a whole kind of diagram and chart about diseases of the hearts um
but that's something foreign [Laughter] [Music] how we know today how negativity
which plagues so many people it pulls greater negativity this is it people who set about with a kind of an ugliness within their heart towards Allah towards his creation you find foreign
negativity which is a state of suffering see negativity is a huge state of suffering now this is also in dystonia they are in a state of suffering it's not just that this is something for when this world comes to an end
foreign [Laughter] highlighting a fascinating Point people of facade you know people when they cause problems when they cause corruption when they
cause they will always claim to be to be doing something good something productive you will never get people that a psychology is explained you will never get people saying I mean I guess you know you maybe in an odd case but generally this is speaking generically when people are causing corruption facade pushing agendas pushing a kind of a a
totalitarian harm they will always claim to be doing this for the betterment you know Muslim real people here that have come to to to bring good um
foreign is used within the Quran and we could translate it as foolish we could translate it but the Quran doesn't always use this in the sense of foolish
it uses it in the sense of those who are not intellectually mature foreign that when you're taking responsibility those who are not that they may be underdeveloped in their mental sophistication they were called Safir in Arabic that people associate faith with that that they say when when they are told to
believe in God they say these people who believe in God are underdeveloped they're not as sophisticated they're not as mentally mature as us this is the claim that these people make that oh God believing in God is something um that you know these people who are slightly mentally naive you know the people of the third world people who don't have this philosophical maturity belief in but that isn't true
you know any person who argues that God there is not a single person honestly there is no argument that can show the belief of God as irrational simply is not true because you begin with the very fact of consciousness
you begin with that fact that what is consciousness how do people establish consciousness because it's fundamental to our existence it's not necessary by evolution in fact one could argue it's counterproductive if we accept Consciousness is which we must accept we must it but nobody denies that that's the one thing that you're certain of
that inextricably undoubtedly that mystery points to mysterium tremendous the great mystery it points to the divine how is the Divine then irrational if anything it is it is a necessary rational belief it makes zeros because if you simply you see this is where all these people get stuck this is why they don't want to
speak about consciousness because the moment they speak about it they're stuck see rather than assume because if you say the brain just generates Consciousness then you're arguing that matter generates Consciousness in which case well why doesn't and it's perfectly fine to say the rest of matter generates Consciousness which it doesn't so rather than Consciousness being the thing that we create or we embody within us it is the thing that embodies us
and these points to the divine that you know that um that is that every that with that we see that the magic of the work of the Divine in existence
if I am and Consciousness says that I am which is echoing the Divine I am in this is why people wow they they this is such a misattribution you know uh that I'm not mean [Music]
this is not specific to Ace to a certain people in every ummah in every nation you will find people like this that are hypocrites that betray the betray the faithful that betray people as well and here with the greatest thing of Faith itself
is used to refer to human beings um so it's not just something which um refers to the Unseen for example dark negative forces of demonic Powers the xiaotein here is referring to human beings they're Devils when they go back to their Devils there is a discussion that what does the word uh shaytan come from and people you have a difference between the kufine and the bosarin who will say that
some say that it comes from from shatan and the kufin from shata instead that from something to to rise and to become all you know so um inflated and or whether it's from something to become all fiery and excited or mischievous highlights that this really is a ismon German from the previous languages that was then brought into Arabic and that seems to make no sense that this was inherited from the
from Hebrew in in essence which would have had the concept of the shaytan which in in the Old Testament meant something an obstacle that prevents you from reaching God Allah right
this just slightly going back Allah this that Allah mocks them this is in response to yesterday they are mocking Allah in and of himself does not mock okay there is and this is something very clear by mainstream Sunni believes that we do not ever describe Allah as as
mocking we don't say that and neither is this something that Allah does here this is understood to mean that this is in response to them saying oh you're mocking well in reality it's as though you are being mocked because what you're doing you are getting wrong and some people said well that can refer to the day of judgment as if not there brings from Ibraham meaning that they Allah meaning that the
the re you'd say reward but the punishment foreign that's what it's being used as okay so the consequence of the mocking that's what Allah is giving to them that's what this means highlights and amongst other people we do not use this term to describe
foreign foreign now we've got here this is a a paradigm of a transaction and Allah uses this right throughout the Quran to buy guidance to buy misguidance right because the elite Society within HRS within
Arabia was a the elite people were Mercantile they were merchants they would go to Northern Arabia to here are parts of the Caravan and this is referring to that language that they would use and it is incredibly um the imagery is very powerful
this transaction of these it flopped you know this is it's like saying this was that the market collapsed um [Laughter] foreign [Laughter]
here we've got a a a beautiful captivating Parable almost being given of those people um that disbelief that their likeness is like that who like somebody who sets who makes a fire but then Allah took away their light notice Allah does not saying Allah took away their fire do you see that
says it begins with a fire but Allah brings it to light you see because of the relationship but for these people in that place in the darkness the fire was not only light it was warmth it was life it was a sign for help it was for people to be able to see them foreign
it captures everything and even more rather than saying Allah took away their fire Allah took away took away then no Allah took away the ignored and this has been read as dulmat as well Martin lives and Allah left them in not just notice in the plural in darknesses the plural
and that's to provide a striking image in the hearts of those who hear this verse [Laughter] and solomat the famous Hadith you have in the saheed
that oppression harming people doing any kind of it will not just be zulma a Darkness it would be tholomat on the day this is khabar to the that went before that you will see that them they like their likeness is like this person this now comes as a
predicate to that subject this was read in some of the Keras like of Abdullah and of hafsa that [Music] in the nominative case because this is describing the reality foreign
now you've got here a rainstorm okay there is an entire discussion on what is this extracted from okay first of all like a rainstorm and ashur mentions who have a rainstorm another discussion is where does this actually come from um is it from uh you've got the uh the pattern of sweep which
the the kufine go with or is it from is it from you've got uh you've got so up in the sense that this is what is the pattern for this particular noun here that we've got in Arabica the gramerians disagree amongst themselves the meaning comes back to the same thing okay that a rainfall from the sky is
summer evening foreign
notice the the imagery that this rainfall this dark rainstorm it brings Darkness with it okay this is what these people are like their presence now here it mentions thunder lightning is going to an entire discussion on some of them for Serene who explained that Thunder is a particular angel from God and lightning is an angel and all these things
and he does highlight that look none of these things are proven through the Quran of Sunnah okay so do not like you know these were brought in through israeliad these kind of judeo-christian narratives into Islam there's nothing authentic about them to go into this whole that rad is actually Thunder is a particular Angel this is a particular Angel the truth is Allah has set a system in nature and it's for us to learn about Allah's systems and they Place their fingers
that they become terrified asabi plural of Israel here will mention up to five different linguistic variations those of you that are into the Arabic uh Buffs out there this could be said in five different ways as in isma and it goes on the whole five variations okay but I saw a bit all of which are languages within Arabic all of which are said like all of these are said okay and
which is um the lightning bolt that strikes down this was recited as well in a variation and I believe that may have been a that was a recitation of Hassan um if I'm correctly may have read it like that but
the general recitation of this is note how the verse finishes with people being you see people are this rainstorm this storm has overwhelmed them they frightened they intimidated they turn Within Allah is Allah encompasses those who did and here we encompasses us all but those in this disbelief you see as they turn Within
their true strength had already encompassed them see it's so just look think of the imagery foreign [Music]
[Music] is used in Arabic to mean when something almost happens as mentions that generally and he's quoting from that look in Arabic generally you'd say but in other than the Quran the Quran usually uses this style of expression without the an so that's for uh our Lauren out there are linguists that in
general Arabic you would say and before the second follow-up verb of yaka Del Parco and for example if we were speaking in the Quran it uses this uh style which is much more hard-hitting that the lightning almost it ceases their sight but this once again is just showing the precarious nature of ma Allah and our journey in this Dunya look how vulnerable we truly are
that is you know if Allah did away with our faculties what are we we're just so vulnerable to think about that Allah is bringing our attention to it in Allah in this is an interesting discussion by the way that you know these verses that Allah is all powerful
that these are General discussions on and there is a discussion that is that there is no General statement except it has been specified in the Quran now that is an a fascinating discussion for the usulin to get into
right now many people have said well that's true um I know albani has a discussion on it as well that that's true that's in the Quran but then people have found variations you know you've got um people will say well look um you know there's some things like Allah is all powerful like this is not specified like what these things every generic statement has been specified with an exemption has had exemptions so things like they will say well Allah
speaks of the Allah speaks of all these things these don't have an exception and um you'll find will mention a few of these examples does sum it up he highlights that look uh following on from zarakshi's statement that Allah when we're saying this statement when the usual say every General every arm has been specified and had an exception had something exempt from it they're not speaking about matters of belief speaking about rulings so when Allah says pray he's not
speaking about the person who's unconscious he's not speaking when Allah says go on Hajj he's not speaking about those who cannot afford it so every arm has has something exempt from it so gelato says well he says I thought about it and I came up with I I just he says I I found a ruling that does not that doesn't apply to that that you cannot marry your mothers
and he says well that's an arm statement and it has no has no exception which is true and that these are fascinating points of discussion for people who love things like [Music]
um this ruling going straight back to worship Allah foreign okay there is a of an in-depth what I feel it's you know it's over stretching really a discussion on why has Allah used
for hope now for Allah we don't say he hopes that worship him uh who has created you and those who in the hope that you attained there is such a lengthy discussion here in all the books of tafsir trying to explain what La Allah means here some say it means K some say it's um it's a device being used in a particular way look
a simpler way to look at this is Allah Revelation is in language that is relatable to us we understand language in a particular way language cannot encapsulate Allah yeah this is for us to understand for us to this is our journey to God not God's Journey To Us
so yeah devout your worship to your lord because those who went before you them too Allah created them as well you know in the hope that you Attain this god-consciousness in the hope that you attain in the hope that you if you do this The Hope from you that you attain that
um foreign [Music]
beautiful recitation by Sayed Allah bless him amen look who has made the earth a farage for you he's laid it out for you there is a discussion here actually in the old muffa Serene book about the Earth being round and they go into all of this and you'll have um you know some of the matazilla refuting it saying it can't be round and so on
going on explaining how it cannot be round and so on this is not what Allah is highlighting okay that he has made it laid it out for you um and here if not Arabi mentions that he goes into a fascinating you know it just goes to show how Scholars the kind of rulings they would extract so he says if a person says that I won't it takes a note I'll never lay in a bed like I'll never let after this in Arabic
uses the term firash but then he lays on the ground does this violate his oath [Laughter] and they go into all of this discussion wow just goes to show how but in that but in a way that that's has a beautiful angle to it that how they try to take meaning from the Quran for every little thing Allah Allah mentions how this the heavens above have been made as a structure
above you and he sent down Merton water those of you uh that uh Arabic or into Arabic that the hustle of the word map is the Hamza is from a heart that Ma and this is why it's plural is Mia foreign but this is all really a lies doing this
for you this is going back to yeah this is the biggest challenge of humanity to Broad themselves away break away the shackles
of superstitious dependency shirk it is so hard you know it's much harder than people think they just cannot break away from silk they can't seem to do it it's so difficult this is the constant because true Bliss will be when you break away and you have your Yaki on Allah
I heard this beautiful quote where somebody's speaking about beerutin Nasir where somebody he's speaking to somebody who's and and the topic is of faith and of something happening and the person says look you know that he's trying to say I've talked upon Allah and says I have hope and so beautifully was Lie these were huge people from the Indian subcontinent amazing people online he is the disciple of Birmingham
that he says to the person this is and he's a great poet in the Urdu language as well he says to him that he says it's a shame that you he you're not embracing faith and the guy's like what he says that yeah you know we
hope that this hope is something we have with people he says with Allah we have certitude Allah will do this for us I'm in difficulty I'm facing a tragedy a challenge the world is King Allah will guide Allah will take me out of this Allah will provide a solution Allah is never abandoned me has never
abandoned us up until now why will he abundant us now this is honestly I heard it it brought tear to my eye so amazing words that foreign you know come away from these other shackles these cobwebs this have just pure faith in Allah he will do it you know people are somebody who's asking me just yesterday about that
always and all these things you know having these tawi that just have faith in Allah he will do it you'll walk walk Allah will take you by the hand and he will guide you just you know Zara see him but have that bit of that courage that Allah will do it and he will he will foreign [Music]
[Music] foreign [Music] it's not just about can
you come up with a hypothetical doubt if you are in a state that shakes what is it that is shaking your reality about revelation bring a Surah like on to this you could take the shortest Surah of the Quran bring something that can the Quran is a margin it is something that has addressed it has incapacitated Humanity to bring something like onto it
here there are lengthy discussions on what is the marchesa the language the linguistic aspect the balaja the fact that it mentions stories of the past the fact that it speaks of the the fact that it tells us of things that could not have been known then people will speak of the miraculous scientific discoveries of embryology of cosmology of the Big Bang of these things that Humanity only in our time is unearthing
sure all of these things are from the you know the mesmerizing nature of the Quran but the incapacitating nature is much bigger than all of that you know in gestalty and psychology you have this that the sum is greater than the whole of it the whole is greater sorry than the sum of its parts the Quran is like that
as Revelation comes together it is an experiential tour de force it is a force of nature Revelation scripture the Quran it has mobilized civilizations
has given rise to people that have redefined the cause of History it has given strength to the weak to the vulnerable to the downtrodden a person that has collapsed under tragedy has stood again they have marched forward they have seized Victory physical metaphorical they have seized life they have found strength they have
show me anything that has done that any book that has done that never you know show me a single text a single scripture that has done that in that capacity people have had scriptures they have you know from Hinduism coming to Christianity to but none have found themselves with a scripture that is so moving in its recitation
that is so binding so mobilizing so captivating that almost 2 billion people on Earth today are still bound inextricably by its verses today nothing can stand the test of time as the Quran has in scripture nothing this is it smartism foreign
you know people may claim things Allah says if you were to be honest with yourself show us you come power the air jazz is in its transformative element in how the Quran has transformed individuals and civilizations and the human cause of History foreign
there is a for the Arabic um students out there that worked can also be read as vocaled with a dhamma and with a fatah as afash and you've got other grammarians have highlighted that with a fatah it is the the actual fuel with the dhamma it is the action of okut so it is the master all right now what is also by extension here this is not just speaking of a damnation to come
but these people that are true careful that cover up with the whilst knowing it they cover the glory of God turn away from they despise because of the diseases in their hearts God himself their punishment is this world this world the misery the Gloom that they can never run away from you know the the default mode Network within the brain that
is it true emancipation it begins here right here it's not just about the right in this Dunya these there is a state of suffering that chases them even in this concrete world even whilst these people sit in their offices leaking misery the truth is that there is a yearning in the soul to connect with the Divine
um [Music] on foreign [Laughter] [Music]
and the same applies here see people this is speaking of the life Hereafter to come now this imagery see we cannot understand the life to come it is as the Hadith mentions it is inconceivable that it is inconceivable to us get an approximation to help us to guide us fruits by our actions you see our doing
that there are there is bliss but this begins similarly as we've mentioned about disbelief in this Dunya as well and you may say well people you know where's the Bliss you could get somebody who's so poor or impoverished see begins within there you will find a contentment a happiness you will find many people that will have so much money have so much Dunya we multi-millionaires they don't have a single night
of blissful sleep or they don't they they are so stressed depressed miserable Within see place is a state of mind that Allah blesses people with it is not a reflection of our worldly gains for the Arabic students as word which is plural of zoj you
the Arabs generally asmahi mentions do not he said they don't usually use the term um in the feminine form so those he said they will use for men and women which means Partners or as in husband wife Farah did mention that look they do say soldier as well which we know they do say soldier as well in Arabic but what is highlighting is that it's more common for Arabs to just use zelge for both
and that may also respond to the verse when Allah says that he created the nafsa and then there's the whole discussion of why is that in the masculine form and we'll come to that um [Music]
foreign [Laughter] [Laughter] [Laughter] green [Laughter]
beautiful verse see Allah will give Parables as he pleases that here Allah mentions that look if Allah was to mention a mosquito now what's fascinating I'll come back to the point on the mosquito in just a second Allah gives Parables as he wishes and as he Wills people who have a problem will find problems you see what this is showing is the problem is with people within
their hearts you know if you have this that if you have an issue with things you will find it everywhere as Imam sure his poem said that well yeah a person trying to go and find you know looking at things with contempt and anger he's just trying to find problems oh why has Allah mentioned a mosquito in the Quran Allah gives examples as he Wills and note that Allah mentions that because he says look what difference
does it make to Allah these are all his creation and Allah says it didn't say a mosquito and what's smaller than that because that's what you might have thought Allah would say a mosquito and that which is even smaller says and that which is bigger meaning huh wait a minute I would have thought allowed that which is smaller but no because it's the same to Allah what makes you think you're more valuable
anything next to Infinities always I mean infinite something infinite is always infinite something fine I can never catch up it's never it's all in comparison it's simply finite you see so Allah says and and what above that still the same
people with diseases in there they say what does Allah want from this example why does Allah give this that's because in another verse Allah says see the locks are on their hearts he misguides by many any guides by many um
this is a fascinating part of this verse some say this is a continuation of what the kufar are saying that the kufara saying what does Allah want by this example he misguides by as in this is the statement of the kuffar why this has become an interesting point of discussion is because do we say Allah misguides
we do not attribute misguidance to Allah now here there is a lengthy discussion IBN Ashu brings many examples that the verb is used and you've also got IBN brings many as well and you've got Rasheed Ridah in history also that this if we are sayings of one perspective is still the statement of the disbelievers another way is no this is now there is a comma after mother that is what the disbelief is saying
here Allah is saying that he misguides now here they say well this verb is used in many ways so for example the verse speaking of the statues in the Quran they have misguided many people statues don't misguide but the verb is used in a way that people have become misguided be over the statues so as in people have become misguided over God that's one way of looking at it another way is to say well
somebody might say you know fulan he destroyed his own child and he said well how did he destroy his child he loved him as in he didn't prevent him from destruction he spoiled his child in Arabic he destroyed him so as in Allah misguided them in the sense that Allah did not forcibly prevent them from taking the root of misguidance because he gave them free will another um definition that some of them use is
to say well Allah and I think these people go with that definition as in Allah distance them from Paradise they use that example some have taken the linguistic that called them misguided but this has some linguistic issues because usually you don't use the fourth format of if I you use the second of as in
to call somebody a liar but generally what we are saying I I would go with and I mean whichever however people want to understand it we do not attribute misguidance to Allah but a way of looking at this is people have been misguided around God that they have themselves been misguided Allah has given them the free will to do it and in that sense people are attributing ultimately the free will to God by which they became misguided okay
but then Allah follows up by saying [Music] Allah did not allow people who went misguided that Allah in this verb that Allah misguided them as in he gave them the ability he gave them he didn't prevent them they were people who of themselves were wretched al-face mentions that this is referring specifically to the disbelievers of the al-kitab and those who went back
[Music] foreign now this goes to show that you see what these people are breaking is such a big Covenant with Allah and this may refer to the people of the book before us that's one way another way is is taking this to refer to
everyone that we deep down within the soul have a covenant with Allah and that's also a beautiful way of looking at this foreign [Music]
that you were already dead and he brought you to life there's many ways of understanding this one some that the muffa Serene have gone into that you were in non-existence therefore you were dead some have said well this there were many deaths like or to be said you could say then three deaths that you were non-existent then you were for example a a drop of sperm or and which is also a kind of death and then you were and so
they're giving them different stages some have said oh you ain't you were a soul Consciousness and that so and then you were non-existent and then you were brought back and and some have said that you were dead in terms of metaphorically you denied God and then he brought you back to Faith and some of you disbelieved again and see this verse can hit in many ways okay
some had even taken this a minority of Muslims took this to believe in reincarnation and said that all you had been dead before and then you were brought back and then you died again and although the majority of the Muslims do not accept reincarnation but this verse it is there to remind us you see that there will be a cyclical nature to life that there is a cycle
not only to life with a capital l that you had a point of non-existence and then you came into this world if we accept that we that Consciousness did exist before that did exist then there was a kind of non-existence for us a kind of death and we emerged here and then after this there will be a death and then but Consciousness our rule we being life will carry on for us there will be an afterlam
this nature is at a micro level repeated within life as well not just physically with the going to sleep which is a form of death an Awakening but also the the trials the achievements the vicissitudes the UPS the Downs of life it will be events as though they are a death and events that are as if they bring life again to us
you see but all of this is returning to Allah Allah and that is a beautiful reminder for everybody who's going through something that foreign but these two shall pass Allah
[Music] this this verse is an incredibly important verse used by many olama to to argue that everything by default in
Islam is permissible except what Islam highlighted is so the default ruling is Allah has created everything in the Earth for us but then he's told us what is this is the understanding that certain several ulama have gone to words
it to Imam Malik um that the default ruling is that everything has been created for us it is permissible some Scholars went to the understanding that Now the default ruling in everything is we just don't know the default ruling is to suspend judgment we wait for a ruling that um you've had some of the malikia have gone towards
highlights it you will get um the uh you will get some of the martasilla have gone towards that some of the chef have gone towards that so foreign you have this discussion what are rulings by default and some have even gone through things by default or Haram are forbidden unless proven otherwise and that's actually other you know some of them the remaining matters will have gone towards that in arguing that by default nothing can be given a judgment of permissibility it's actually Haram
and you find certain people do go towards that ruling but this was does argue as a vocalypse highlights amongst other people that Allah has created for us what is in the earth so except that which he prescribes and prohibited the Rest by default is permissible and so things like food and all of this uh follow-on or a corollary from this discussion another Point here is Allah mentions then after he created everything in the
earth then he turned to the heavens this summer then Allah turned and formed the heavens does this mean and the Seven Heavens does this mean that the heavens came after the earth now this does not denote that IBN sorry he highlights very clearly that then can be temporal so you can be referring to Summer
for something that is denoting time but it can also be literary it can either be little for example or it can be literature it can be speaking in terms of priorities in terms of status so and this is also demonstrated in the other verses where it says and before that it highlights in the universes so the cosmos is being discussed here
then Allah turned to the cosmos and fashioned it foreign it's for its priority ontological priority for its status because the cosmos with all its Splendor with all its vastness truly only comes to know itself through us Allah
Allah mentions it is through us the cosmos becomes conscious of itself that we as a part of the cosmos observe the cosmos so the 13th here is in terms of status has the famous discussion it doesn't always mean uh in its linguistic definitions you have things like is
the famous poet that is mean about a Dominion it doesn't literally mean to mount it doesn't have to mean that and you have that discussion and we'll discuss it again when we come to those verses can mean about establishing a Dominion a power coming to it does not these are literary expressions and not uh you know they don't have to be literal okay about Allah uh being
physically above I mean most of Allah do not attribute a physical location to God because location cannot contain Allah Ali see Allah is aware Allah has knowledge meaning whatever you're doing whatever you're thinking whatever Allah is
that there is a Solace because he's he's created everything in the heavens and the Earth for us but but somebody thinking of this may think yeah but I don't have such and such or I don't but you don't know of what yet is to come up you keep moving forward in your journey keep striving take that step
you see you don't know how your story will end you don't know the the greatness that Allah has in store for you you just don't know you don't know how amazingly colorful and vibrant and beautiful Your Story will be foreign with that people I'll leave you guys may Allah bless us all you can read upon the next four pages for our next session of Quran Quest salaam Allah alaikum final note I forgot to say those of
