you lose the willpower if you lose at heart you lose in life and at times you lose life itself there have been many people who they because of some kind of loss they actually died maybe not imminently but in the weeks to come for example maybe the months to come that such a loss hit them so powerfully um and you see that with people that love other people they that you know only know other people i saw with my uh my own grandparents that uh my paternal
grandparents i saw that they had spent an entire lifetime together um they my grandfather must have passed away at the age of i think he must have been 93 or something and he was still walking around and you know mobile and and of good health given the age still had hair on his head and even though he's used to shave is a very a very pious person always you know pray this tahajud always dressed in that traditional you know used to wear the the old style the izars and very and the buggery you know the old
people who wear the the turban in the villages like that and i saw when he passed away and within months my grandmother passed away and she was of a similar age and and she passed away i think uh i think maybe six months after him and and that was the difference in her age with him that she was six months younger and you see this with people may allah bless their afterlife i mean and everybody who's who you know who who's somebody has passed away allah bless them and you see this in people that they
they when they have this in life and this can it doesn't have to just be people it could be a passion if that falls to pieces they lose life and that's it you know they they pass away and such is the story of our guest tonight the man the myth the legend sibo way that's an alleged picture of i don't know how they would have drawn that but and that's a picture of the city of shiraz in iran which he i believe was from but he resorted to at the end of his life and that's his book known as al-kitab he is the dawn of the
arabic language his book in arabic grammar is called al-kitab it's called the book i mean you can't top that they say what what book did you write he says i wrote the book allah and his name was abu bishman but people know him as sibley and there's a whole debate on why but he was the head of this whole basari grammar school he was a student of khalil ahmed
and he had a rival school kufa and they disagreed in grammar and they used to take digs at each other and they had all this kind of rivalry going on and his arch nemesis was kisai if you recall previously we've spoken about the kerat of the quran and you you see one of the people of the terra is kisai
is his arch rival he has his own school of grammar which they disagree on rules and what happens is once in baghdad now you see remember my story of the baramika the burma kids and how i spoke of how you had the different jaffar al-baramaki and all these stories at the time of haruna rasheed now this is at that time now you see in history how when i will tell these stories they will then you'll be able to connect the dots that who was where
and how they were connected and in your mind this kind of mental map gets created where things come to life so yahya al-burmaki um he one day wants he hears that sibo is in town so he says that yeah he says to kasai kasa he was the the royal teacher so he was the teacher of amin and mahmoud of the abbasid and he was therefore close to haruna rasheed and the baramika because they obviously used to see him often so he says
he says you know what let's arrange a meet up clash of the titans so we've got these two heavyweights these dons now siboway gets invited now he turns up and um when he turns up the two kind of students but you know the followers and they next in the school of um of kasai the kufi school you have some other figures he's like one of the founding figures he's not the founders
proto founders but he's one of the key people kasiri but then you've got junior to him people like farrah who's uh who's like incredibly well known and a lot of his opinions are in the books of grammar you have farah then um now these two are waiting there so siboi turns up so they start you know quizzing him stop saying yes i have hey what's that tell me what's this what's that
so they they come on a bit harsh and strong to see the way and he doesn't like it and sibo is a bit of a private person and what happens is siboway gets offended and he says to them what is this this is you guys have no manners no respect you know i'm a guest here and you guys just you know just trying to basically you're trying to kind of like bully me because what would happen is they would ask him questions and he he started to engage them he'd answer them and they started saying haha you got it wrong
[Laughter] and so he's obviously offended he's like what the hell so what happens is equals peers so he says give us the room allah
some people say this was done by haruna rashid by the way but makes no difference so people are there in this room so kasa is sitting there he says he says he doesn't quite say that but he says to him how's it going he says it's good he says to him you wanna you wanna ask me you wanna quiz me or shall i quiz you a la look at that straight straight to business huh straight to business so see boy says
he says you go first he says says quiz me he says okay he says what do you say in this masala this masala came to be known as the masala arabic is a wasp okay and he says what do you say about what is the kololarob how should arab say he says tell me how should arab say this he says
and this statement is irrelevant it's just the the kind of preamble he says that how should the arabs see this and the sentence is i used to think that the scorpion's sting is worse than that of the wasp for either who are here but lo and behold it is the same that's what he's trying to say you know lo mismo in espanol but he says is faith
both of them mean the same thing in arabic okay in arabic a pronoun when it's on its own and not being acted upon stays nominative so like hua hiya anta anti anna these are just nominal pronouns which are on their own detached but if it's the object of a verb they change so it's not who it becomes who it's not here it becomes ha so like if it's it's not ante becomes ca like not que for halo and so here the question was should they say for either
yaha or should they say for either here now siboway says to him for either who are here now sibo is right in what he's saying but technically so what he says is you're wrong no sibley sorry it doesn't just say for either here he says the arabs only say for either who are here the arabs only say this this is where civil war was actually mistaken
he says to him the arabs say also say and i have to say for some reason to me that the ring of that sounds a bit better although what civil way is saying is the not the baseline how it generally is like in the quran how it reads suddenly it is like a snake it is a snake or um usually it is like that that is true but they could do this in terms of making it hard so what happens is sibo way now
kassai and siboy get into this argument and he keeps asking these same kind of questions to him with the same like changing the wording but the same structure and siboy keeps saying no it's only just this way and kasai says haha you got it wrong don what kind of a don [Laughter] doesn't even know this so what happens is
he says you know what you guys are the dawns of your if you guys can't agree who do i ask so question he says look there's bedouin arabs who have come to the palace because they would often come as delegates to ask for stuff why didn't you invite some of them in and ask them they let them judge they're the the pure arabs so what happens is they bring in these uh these kind of bedouins who then say they agree with kassai like i say he's right now this embarrassment or this what
people what sibo i felt was a betrayal kasibo way felt and this is how many grammarians stated because the school of basra dominated the scene afterwards it kind of won the the culture war and so they say that kassai had set this up and he had even bribed those bedouins at the door now allahu alam if that be true i personally don't think he bribed them because even later gramerians like ibn hashem and all these people write that that is actually how arabs do say as well even though it's rare so it's true that
it's not common usage but it's not unheard of so they felt that sibo way was in the right for dictating that this is how it should be said but he was wrong for saying this is how it's only said and uh so so siboway is so heartbroken with this this incident because he does say to yahya al-burmaki that look don't you know he is a guest he came here don't let him go just like this like give him something you know he came here as a guest of yours and so they say that
yahaya al-baramaki gave him 10 000 the nubs which is a hell of a lot of money in that day and age and um and remember i spoke about the barami and how they used to be so generous so sibo way was so hurt by this overall experience that he he kind of returns he he leaves people and recluses he goes off heads towards shiraz in iran modern day iran and that was his hometown and then within weeks they say he dies and he was he was reasonably young i mean he wasn't that old but he
they say he was so heartbroken and he felt so like like i've turned up to this royal palace for once and i'm you know the at the the the epitome the what's the word what's the apostle [Laughter] right so is it apostle state or but i am at this you know the summit of
my passion and this is the humiliation i face i first get these people kind of trying to degrade me and trying to denigrate me and then i get this and i'm insulted in this way even though he feels with kasa he wasn't trying to bully but he feels that maybe because i set him up for failure and he bribed this is what people feel and some grammarians like jeremy say you know it wasn't fair why why would they ask the bedouin delegates because the bedouin delegates are people who turn up
to the palace who are familiar with people like kasay who has the royal who has royal audience so obviously they're going to agree with him because they need something done and he's the royal person sibo is a nobody to them so they're going to pick sides so other grammarians did say that yeah it is a tragedy but you see this person coming to a death as a as a consequence of his passion and i'll tell you something you know there's a maliki uh scholar uh centuries later has him what a slick name has him
his name is okay al-andalusi and he's from um cartagena which um is cartagena and espana it's in spain it's still it's still there it's a i think south east in murcia and it was called cartagena in many ways named after in tunis there was an old there was a city called which was carthage
after the old carthage kingdom and then you have almost this new uh cartagena this new kind of car being built in spain uh and it was in muslim spain well i'm sorry not built but whoever built obviously before the muslims but the muslims then inhabited and they lived there and has him al carthogini he has a poem and he's a student of he's one of the most epic authors on ballara rhetoric in arabic
and he's a student of abu ali shalom who's also one of the most profound is the scholars of the arabic language and and and this is all around that time and who is shallow being a student of just to show you to put it in that picture so just to give you a picture because when i'm telling you these things that mind map is connecting dots and uh so they around this mo had time so you've had and we've spoken previously of yahoo mantua and
um when he has that whole debate and i did a whole video on this and just after him this generation you've got in muslim spain this has he writes a poem and he brings this in to his now poem this whole incident and he says he says he says
so that the arabs may at times drop the akhbar khabar is the predicate in a sentence if they want to give a surprise like this this sentence he's talking about this he says he says and maybe at times even though it could be infrequently they said it with a nasp as cassetti was saying after either
and yet they may also do the other version so as siboi had said and he says in his poem that um [Music] is tricked people like a puzzle people and it led to the death and depression of sibo way god karnataka
i used to think the wasp was you know more than the or that the scorpion was worse than than the wasp but you know they are whatever he's just highlighting the masala and and he is bringing that zumba he says he says what um wabil jawabi that is it that the answer should it be either he that is this how it should be
this is what they disputed and fought amongst he's bringing this to uh to the forefront and he says he says he says now this is the maliki scholar saying this he says that these people they considered civil way to be making a mistake and he says they actually
oppressed him [Laughter] because you know even though to be fair sibo way i think was wrong on saying the arabs don't say that but they did oppress him he says and he says and he really infuriates the name of siva way amribnam
he says ali really wronged him and he kind of infuriated him if only he didn't get the last say karee the amrin ali and here he's taking the same names back to satan and asked when they had after the battle of sefin and he's saying in the same way that wronged ali and he's twisting the play on the names because here ali in this case kasa he has wronged sibo way so ali is wrong
how amar had wronged ali over there and he says that and this is he says he says and the worst of things is knowledge you know when you are oppressed in knowledge that the pain it causes like and by this it doesn't just mean knowledge it can mean your intellectual property if you are oppressed and robbed of your intellectual property your creativity
he says this is from the greatest of thumbs and that's a poem by um um and even brings that as well in his so this is such a obviously an amazing story over just this wasp [Laughter] wow but what it did is it immortalized this word of the of the zambour everybody if you think if you ever hear the word zamur today it's a masala so yeah i thought i'd share that with
you guys
