high esteem to be incent when you know because i know he has much more than the capacity and understanding to be sensitive so when he speaks of um so when he's asked the question do you believe in god and then he will say well you know i behave as though i like to behave as though somebody watching me would would think i believe in god or something like this and and you know when he's asked certain questions his comment reply will be like well that would take me 40 hours to unpack that
so i just feel given all of that some kind of sensitivity is always you know just a propriety but i i i wouldn't it's not that i'm holding that against i'm just saying you know for somebody who is very well-versed and intelligent and sensitive about topics like the discussion of god and so that maybe it's just you know but anyway i'm glad they brought that up and doctor uh mustafa does reply he does highlight that look um um he says that that
the prophet's battles were defensive which is absolutely the point i mean nobody really disagrees with that the prophet's battles in islam were defensive they were not offensive battles and the one or two are the history that comes with them are preemptive defense battles so the prophet hears that such and such armies are getting ready and if we don't act we're going to be attacked here so why don't we go out
to a certain point and await them there like us for example one of the final battles so this is it is as a preemptive um preemptive um expedition where they go to a place and await but it is still in defense now this is sometimes not known or sometimes it's maybe it's known but not given much attention so dr mustafa does highlight that and i'm glad he does he he quotes the verses i'm glad he quotes the verses that look
at the first verse of jihad or then that permission has been granted to those who are oppressed that they now may take up arms and that was after over a decade of persecution so i'm glad he highlighted that because that was really well done and um he then you see he he right okay so after that dr mustafa akal highlights that you see the companions after the prophet take on this expansionism um
idea and really all the offensive jihad begins with them you see i would disagree personally i would you see to me islam is not a pacifist faith it has a military element to it but then you know many mechanisms and do in the world just as nation states today do we wouldn't you wouldn't picture a state today without its capacity for power and in fact you know dr peterson speaks jordan speaks about this a lot himself that it's not you see it's the capacity he speaks
about the capacity to be a monster but choose not to that is the empowering element and it's not the fact that you don't have a choice that you you couldn't be a monster even if you wanted to because then you're just harmless and nobody cares you see it's it's the potential and it's not islam has never denied that potential but it's not this it's not been an aggressive this kind of um violator that in that some people have drawn caricatured islam to be now
the companions after the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam like beginning with uh beginning with omar uh it's not you know if you study the history it's not yes there are it is there's a lot of military expeditions taking place but it's not like that hey everybody's living nice and peaceful they're just having picnics and the muslim armies are coming in oh let's go on horseback and oh let's throw spears at these people and it's nothing like that nothing i mean in a workers time which is a very
short span just over two years it's the internal tribes of arabia that are kind of declaring themselves and and trying to rebel and create insurgencies and oh bucket is faced with the challenge of how do i suppress insurgencies how do i and i can only do it by showing by meeting might with might but in um there is this this expansion takes place but where it takes place into the middle east into the levant region but that region has been bubbling with war for decades before islam
you know you've had the rasanids and the lakhmids and who are the arab tribes constantly fighting and constantly and it wasn't just because remember many of these factions have tribes within arabia neighboring the hijas within tihama within nudge you're going to have kinder that are based here and kinder that are based up there and you're going to have many of uh based here and are based up there and the aruba that are based up in the north but also have you know many other uh factions in within hijab it's not this you see the fighting has been going on
long before islam harable is going on for 40 years prior to islam you know this is not something which which we've covered in all things that you're going to have that you know talib and and the whole thing of salim avenging you know and the whole thing about the statement it became a proverb nobody can overcome tuggling because they're just this ruthless bloodthirsty and the famous proverb the lol islam allah
oh sorry putting it the other way that if it was not for islam that taglib would have consumed and eaten up all of the arabs so it's not that you see fighting it's a very volatile region but two great dynasties are have kind of collapsed or they are coming to their collapse the the brink so the wrong has really lost its prestige long lost it and persia has really is it's it's in its final
breaths you see and those kingdoms are also the arab client kingdoms are also decimated because in around the time of the hijra that what you have is you know the great last mid king is is killed because he he insults the the kisrah you know the king of persia for not allowing his uh his sister to be married off because he asked he proposes and in his famous statement that don't you have any cows of the push says are they no more
cows left in persia for you to marry that you now need to look at the arabs and this obviously enrages kisrah and he has him assassinated and this then uh it destabilizes the lachman dynasty which then it becomes a power grab so and and and they've got places in bahrain and so what i'm trying to state here is it's not there's a lot of gorilla warfare taking place what they would call the ghazwa there's a lot of these and it's not like this picture that oh this civilized society like let's just
say you've got europe today you know there isn't really a war taking place and all of a sudden the muslims just suddenly one day with daybreak you see these armies coming and and they're throwing spears and they take off it was nothing like that so yes expansion continued but it wasn't in this kind of bloodthirsty sense it was given the context its natural kind of habitat it was a very volatile wall struck
land the near east and this is why they don't seem to keep going you see once those volatile regions are stabilized the muslims don't seem to keep going they could have kept going they don't they just have truce and it's not that they didn't have armies or they lacked the zeal so i just felt that part i didn't i felt was a bit uh i don't know me as a person i didn't really um agree so much with the thought that as soon as the companions came in it turned into some kind of uh um i do agree that obviously with
dynasty and dynasties there was a lot more expansionism but but that too even the the bunny omaya and even the bunny are bust they're not this kind of uh they roughly just stabilize they don't keep this kind of there's some little battles here and there but they're not this kingdom that is out on this you know this this kind of witch hunt for infidels and and doing they're not at all so that so but bringing that in anyway so that was an interesting part of the conversation
