The World of Ideas - Be a Part of It - [عالم الأفكار] - Mufti Abu Layth

assalamu alaykum folks. Here's something really dear to me I want to share with you. Be a people of ideas. Concern yourselves with deeper layers of reality. There's an amazing quote that great minds

talk about ideas, average minds talk about events, and small minds talk about people. And that's not to say that we won't speak about people or events. Naturally, we are a part of this world. this duna but rise above it as well and that can be in anything that interests you or cultivate an interest in it.

Think about it. It could be about reality. What makes reality philosophies? It could be about science. It could be about the world. It could be about history, civilizations, how they rose, collapsed, the deeper uh, you know, layers of strata that kind of played itself out. It could be about um it could be about art, it could be about poetry, it could be about um just evaluating the psych cyclical nature of events but at a

at a at a layer of ideas. There's so much that a person could concern themselves with. There's a verse of the Quran where Allah after mentioning so many signs says and there are signs

of people who are the people of ideas who do and it is so easy to get into you know it's not a person anything that you like I said it could be ranging from art to poetry to history to civilizations to the world around us to what is reality to anything but you're trying to get to how does the mind work

what what is the you know just whatever you could start off with simple questions. You could type them into YouTube. Speak to an AI agent. Just talk, explain this to me. What is this? Just keep asking questions that there is something about that world, the the world of ideas that has a reality of its own.

You know, it's it's why I guess Aristotle said that the the greatest and most pleasurable of all pursuits is the intellectual pursuit. And this doesn't mean that you have to, you know, it's only speaking about people who are bookworms or nerds or geeks or, you know, you know, bal it's only it's people who who admire and appreciate a flavor of

existence that is below just surface deep. Just think about that. You know, the the great minds talk about ideas and average minds talk about events and small minds about people. How often have you been in company?

And sure, you know, it's good to catch up and and talk and people will, you know, people will gossip and people will and that's, you know, you know, these things are a part of our existence. But then there comes a point in that mafil, you know, that kind of gathering where there should be talk about ideas.

No, anything. Somebody could speak about civilizations, about people, historical achievements, things that changed the world or challenged the world. And it does it kind of amazes me how often how many gatherings don't have that.

You know, they don't have a a flavor of a higher discourse. Yeah. It is something and it is a a passion maybe to some even an insanity onto itself. You know uh what's there's a a poem by Jonelia I believe where he says

that you know I guess when you take the reality of life and embrace it and at a deeper level I guess life will always based on perspective will have an element of suffering but that is what I guess one could say maybe cancelled world by embracing this world of meaning and ideas.

And he says what that once embracing all of that the darker realities of life that that you know let me just reside amongst the insane for a while because I guess that when something becomes prayer to to common people it may appear as

insanity because it's abnormal. I thought I'd share that I do think really be a people of ideas. Allah bless you all.
