What is riba al-fadl and what does the hadith on gold, silver, wheat, barley, dates and salt say?
The six-commodities hadith requires equal, hand-to-hand exchange and makes delay riba, even between different goods. Taken literally it would make credit impossible, so the scholars exempted gold and silver by a kind of consensus.
