## Longer summary

A super chat asks about the hadith from Bukhari that Fatima is a part of the Prophet and what hurts her hurts him, and that Ali could not take a second wife. Mufti Abu Layth says he does not think the Prophet would have stopped Ali from taking a second wife as such, though he grants that jealousy and discomfort at it were natural even in a society where polygamy was the norm. The issue, he says, was that Ali wanted to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl, who epitomised the enemy, and he urges reading the full hadith, in which the Prophet says one roof will not host the daughter of the Messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah.

## Transcript (machine tier, 1:18:40–1:21:12)

[1:18:00] How infinitely majestic do you think the transcendent divine is who created it? So us the way this termite is is you know we see that as such a laughable matter that's how we are to God just laughable [laughter] you know that's that's the truth right uh few super chats let me just All right there goes one I've just missed it

[1:18:39] [laughter] your thoughts on the hadith uh from Bkari. Fatima is a part of my body and what I hate she hate she hates to see and what hurts Fatima hurts me. Ali could not take a second wife. You see, I I don't think that to be honest with you, I don't think the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam would have uh stopped Ali from taking a second wife.

[1:19:11] Um but it's who he was marrying and the great harm that that would cause. You see, obviously, one could understand that a second wife would cause some harm anyway, like some, you know, it wouldn't be a pleasant feeling. I understand that. But you, they were in a society where it was quite the norm. It's not like an odd thing or one person was doing it.

[1:19:37] Almost every single person did it. So, they grew up like that. Remember, they grew up as children. Every single person they saw, the majority of them w were practicing polygamy. wasn't something that was rare for them. But yet, I wouldn't deny the naturalness of that kind of jealousy or that kind of uh dislike and discomfort to that. I totally ex think that was real.

[1:20:05] But the issue was Ali wanted to marry the daughter of Abu Jahal, not of not any other woman. who was who epitomized I mean she didn't but her father epitomized the absolute opposite end of the spectrum for the prophet you know you've got the prophet and you've got the enemy forces and at the epitome of was Abu Jahal so to marry his daughter so in one household see in fact read what the if don't stop there Read the full hadith.

[1:20:44] The prophet said, "One roof will not host the daughter of the messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy, the great enemy of Allah." That's what the prophet said. He never said one roof won't have two women or whatever. He he said that it was the it was the actual incident. So just to so just to clarify that

[1:21:11] you're doing it much love for the super chat. Why do shikhs in the west wear Islamic clothing amongst the people? I feel that is created a barrier with the people not just the non-Muslims but Muslims as well. It comes off as very intimidating status uh differentiation thoughts. I absolutely agree uh it's something I've said time and time again.
