**Summary (not a quotation; machine-made, unchecked):** Mufti Abu Layth says the Leicester mufti seems enlightened but, like others from his background, is too worried about backlash to speak out.

## Longer summary

Asked about a young mufti from Leicester, Mufti Abu Layth says he has never met him and has not seen him on social media recently. Mufti says he feels such muftis may see sense in many things but lack the courage to challenge their Deobandi background, and that he once read some of this mufti's writing and felt he seemed enlightened but held back for fear of backlash from his community. Mufti says he would love to connect but thinks the mufti would be too scared to, and describes the Leicester Muslim community as having a village mentality.

[1:59:33] Never should this be done that somebody should depict or should they as Muslims if non-Muslims do it that's like if they drew the prophet there's you know obviously it's not the prophet we don't need to get all about it but as Muslims we shouldn't and as Muslims we shouldn't definitely shouldn't um kind of enact him like that in a movie that is um Mui what are your thoughts on Miy Adam Koseri from Leicester.

[2:00:05] All right. Mi Adam Kri. This is Adam. I take it. The young uh Adam, right? I don't you see I've never met Adam at one point. I think he was quite active on social media. I don't know if he still is. I just haven't seen him recently on any of the uh social media things.

[2:00:33] So maybe he is still active and my algorithms now just [laughter] don't pick him up. But yeah, you see the problem. I feel that maybe people like Mui Adam can see sense in a lot of things, but they're too um they lack the the courage to speak out or they kind of lack the the voice.

[2:01:02] they won't like I don't feel people like Mu Adam or any of these uh MUIS would ever be able to speak out on any issue and challenge the like let's say the the Obundi background they would never be able to do it um they're way too buried in so therefore it's a kind of dead end for places like the Muslim the younger generation of the UK or the west these people are a kind Unfortunately, although I do feel u Adam, I remember a few years back I read a few of his things and and I felt that wo like he

[2:01:41] seems to be somebody who is enlightened maybe within although he's not letting it out because he's worried about a backlash. And I I did I'd love to connect with him, but you see this is the thing like I think he would be too scared to connect with somebody like me just because of the backlash he would get from his own community. And Leicester is a very kind of hardcore dioy kind of like a village.

[2:02:12] It's not a village, it's a city, but it's for the Muslims there. It's like a village mentality. They are like still in I don't know 1850. [laughter] The mutiny of 1857 hasn't quite happened yet against the British Raj. [laughter] So yeah. All right. So what is going on?

[2:02:44] Mariam Mo. Hi Mariam Mo. Is it Mariam Mo always usually presents these kind of like salify answers like I I I get the feeling like this is like a like a hater that [laughter] I don't know if you are you might actually be a supporter so but that's the vibe I always get uh Mariam Moz but you do definitely always tune in so I have to kind of w dedication I like it you know this one I like it so Mariam Moes Your surname is a bit freaky, but where's that question gone?
