## Longer summary

Asked in the chat whether men can wear gold, Mufti Abu Layth says that in his understanding they can, and that he has a video explaining why gold and silk are not haram, in line with several scholars. Mufti says the Prophet discouraged them for a good reason in his time: Medina was a volatile warrior society that survived by raiding and needed to stay on alert rather than settle into a luxurious, sedentary life. He points to the coalition attempts to wipe Medina out, saying that without the sandstorm the Quran speaks of the coalition would have done near-fatal damage. He then checks on the moderators.

[16:34] Can I drink alcohol? That's the question basically. Relax. Relax. Relax. So, I can't pay. What's all of these? Can men wear gold? Yes, I've answered that. Uh men can wear gold in my understanding [snorts] and I've got a whole video on it explaining why gold and silk are not haram.

[17:04] Uh according to several scholars, and I find myself in line with those, but it was that the prophet did discourage this for a for a good reason in his time. because he was trying to prevent this um luxurious sedentary um chilled out kind of lifestyle because the people needed to be on a persistent or a consistent state of standby.

[17:35] It was a very volatile society. It was uh they were things like they I mean they were in essence a warrior uh society. They I mean if you say society but a warrior kind of civilization. They had a warrior lifestyle. People survived off raiding other towns or other villages or um tribes and it was extremely dangerous.

[18:03] So the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam discouraged a a kind of in the in the moment in his moment sallallahu alaihi wasallam he discouraged a um a settled settled outlook on life. He needed the community to be on alert. And there were several attempts.

[18:29] There were major attempts, coalition attempts to completely wipe Medina off the face of the globe. So it's not that the prophet was just imagining these things that were in his mind. These things actually happened. Um and the attempts were very powerful. And if it was not for the sandstorm that kind of blinded these people and lasted days um I mean that's in the Quran speaks of the the means the coalition and if it wasn't for that the coalition the part these kind of groups that got together would have caused you know near

[19:05] fatal damage to Medina. So yeah. Uh right. What is going on? What is going on? Right. Are people saying that there's uh are the mods are the mods asleep today?
