No: Mufti Abu Layth says not feeling Ramadan's atmosphere is no reflection of your faith, since worship is not measured by how good it feels. Mufti Abu Layth says not feeling the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan or hajj is no reflection of a person's faith and no cause for guilt, since worship is not measured by how it feels.

It is your call: make the fast up later if you can, or give fidya if your situation will not change, which Mufti Abu Layth bases on the plain wording of Quran 2:184. Mufti Abu Layth says whether one can fast is one's own decision, that those who cannot should make the fast up later or, if their situation will not change, give fidya on the apparent reading of 2:184, and that fasting is a personal commitment, not a punishment.

Follow any timetable you like; Mufti Abu Layth endorses the al-Azhar-derived fatwa that a fast of twelve hours or more is valid for anyone who needs it. Mufti Abu Layth says one may follow any reasonable fasting timetable, and that he endorses the fatwa that a fast of twelve hours or more is valid for those who need it, whose need others may not judge.

Why does Ramadan fall in different seasons each year?

Mufti Abu Layth says the early Islamic calendar was kept in line with the seasons by an extra month, nasi, and Ramadan only began moving through the year after that practice lapsed. Mufti Abu Layth says that in his view the calendar in the Prophet's time was lunisolar, kept aligned with the seasons by an intercalary month, nasi, and that Ramadan probably began to rotate through the year only after the practice lapsed during the expansion of the state.

Are the signs of the Hour part of Islamic creed?

One can be a Maliki and doubt these reports: Ibn Ashur, Shaykh al-Islam of the Malikis, classed the signs of the Hour as information rather than creed, and Imam Ahmad said the malahim reports have no foundation.

The Mahdi belief is disrespectful to the Prophet, who was the rightly guided saviour, and entered Sunni Islam from early Shia political movements; the Mahdi hadith describe figures of that time. Mufti Abu Layth says the belief in a Mahdi is disrespectful to the Prophet, who was the rightly guided saviour, and that it entered Sunni Islam from early Shia political movements, the Mahdi hadith being fabricated descriptions of figures of that time.

The Ibn Sayyad and Dajjal reports are absurd and insult the Prophet's dignity, and their contradictory accounts of who and where the Dajjal is show they are not revelation. Mufti Abu Layth says the reports in which the Prophet spies on the child Ibn Sayyad suspecting him to be the Dajjal, and related reports in Sahih Muslim and Bukhari, are absurd and insulting to the Prophet's dignity, and that their contradictory accounts of the Dajjal's identity and location show they are not revelation.

Why does the Muwatta contain hadith that Imam Malik did not follow?

Malik included in the Muwatta reports he did not practise, and the only report about Jesus there shows him telling a pig to pass in peace. Mufti Abu Layth reads this as a sign Malik rejected the reports that Jesus will return to kill pigs. Mufti Abu Layth says Imam Malik included in the Muwatta reports he did not practise, and infers from the only report about Jesus there, in which Jesus tells a pig to pass in peace, that Malik had a problem with the reports that Jesus will return and kill pigs.

Mufti Abu Layth says it is not haram to believe the universe is never-ending, depending on what is meant, since creation once brought into existence, including the afterlife, remains forever in some form while still being other than God.

Mufti Abu Layth calls the report of the adult Salim being suckled fabricated and mocks al-Albani's fatwa permitting it directly, welcoming Mohammed Hijab's attack on it as a sign he is outgrowing Salafism. Mufti Abu Layth says the report that the Prophet told a woman to let the grown Salim drink her milk is fabricated, because it is ridiculous.

Can the hadith about Jesus's return be questioned?

No report on the return is beyond question: about eighty percent come through Abu Hurayra and about half through one narrator, none from Abu Bakr, Umar or Ali; the series will continue. Mufti Abu Layth says eighty percent of the hadith on Jesus's return come through Abu Hurayra alone.

Mufti Abu Layth says a narrator in one of the chains who transmits that Jesus will come back is not reliable.

What does the Ibn Mas'ud hadith about the end of time say, and is it reliable?

The Ibn Mas'ud report has unknown narrators, opens by citing the Christians' claim that Jesus will return, and ends with life regrowing from a fluid sent from beneath the Throne, which Mufti Abu Layth calls preposterous. Mufti Abu Layth says one report begins with the statement that the Christians claim Jesus will come back, which shows the belief creeping in.

Is there a single hadith on Jesus's return with a flawless chain?

Every chain he examined among the strongest Bukhari and Muslim reports, including that of al-Nawwas ibn Sam'an, has a criticised narrator, so Qadhi's 'no doubt' fails; preferring al-Bukhari over equal critics is arbitrary. Mufti Abu Layth says every single chain he examined among the strongest reports in Bukhari and Muslim has a problem in it.

Further Sahih Muslim chains contain a narrator with memory loss, an unidentifiable narrator who could not have met Abu Hurayra, Ibn Jurayj, whom he calls a major mudallis, and Abu al-Zubayr. Mufti Abu Layth says one narrator from Abu Hurayra in a Sahih Muslim chain for the return transmits no other hadith and is a ghost who does not exist.

What is wrong with the other Bukhari and Muslim chains on Jesus's return?

The second Bukhari chain passes through Qutayba, who once concealed a forger, and al-Zuhri; the Sahih Muslim chains include Harmala, Yunus ibn Yazid and others the critics faulted. Mufti Abu Layth says Qutayba heard a fabricated hadith from a known forger, dropped him and presented it as heard from al-Layth, which puts at least a question mark over him.

Is the hadith in Bukhari about Jesus coming down reliable?

The first Bukhari chain is doubtful: al-Bukhari left two narrators unnamed, which he is known to have done deliberately, and the chain runs through al-Zuhri, who was known to insert his own words into hadith. Mufti Abu Layth says al-Bukhari on purpose referred to his teacher Muhammad ibn Yahya by names he was not known by, so as to deceive his readers.
